  1. The plugin ECU come with a base map. The engine will start on this map. Maybe the wrong map was loaded. Make sure you have these settings.

    Trigger Setup->Trigger mode = Mitsubishi EVO 7-9

    Trigger 1 Type = Optical/Hall

    Trigger 1 Filtering = Level 2

    Trigger 1 Pullup = On

    Trigger 1 Edge = Rising

    Trigger 2 Type = Optical/Hall

    Trigger 2 Filtering = Level 2

    Trigger 2 Pullup = On

    Trigger 2 Edge = Rising

    Calibrate->Trigger Offset = 0 deg

  2. Normally people use a fuel pressure sensor in the fuel rail. We sell a 10bar (150 psi) sensor for this job. The fuel pressure can signal can be used to turn on a warning light or add extra fuel.

I think you should add a sensor as this is the expected method for detecting problems like this.

  3. I am lucky to get ~10hz...

And use a quadcore alianware laptop when logging.

Yes I also find the power of the PC has very little to do with the PC memory logger. It is noise on the USB cable that causes the low log rate. I use a dog of a laptop to tune. Some cars the rate is good, others it sucks. Because of this I use the ECU memory logger.

  4. I have looked on the AutoMeter website and cannot find any technical information on the sensors.

If the sensor was one in the software pick list, then both the Vipec and the AutoMeter gauge would read wrong as both the gauge and the Vipec have pullup resistors. You could use a Volt input so you only had one pullup. The gauge would also need to have a 1k to 5 volt pullup for it to read correctly.

Too many problems... Use separate sensors.

  5. I have just put a new version of 4.8.1 software on the website to download. It is the same as the old 4.8.1, but with these changes.

    New Features

    · Global Snake Pause. F6 now pauses / resumes all table snake trails at the same time.

    · Ctrl + Q or A, Ctrl + PageUp or PageDown increase/decrease full table rows.

    · Caps Lock key controls small or large changes when increasing/decreasing table numbers.

    Changes

    · Changed Oil Pressure and Fuel Pressure runtime values to kPa units for consistency with communication streams and dash displays.

    Fixes

    · Axis setup form could have empty values entered which could not be corrected.

    · Couldn't edit parameter properties from the setup time plot menu.

    · Quick Trim (M key) applied changes when Cancel was clicked!

    · Quick Trim (M key) couldn't change taret AFR number manually.

    · When a settings view was padlocked, clicking a table edit button changed the settings panels contents (should never change when padlocked).

    · Motec dash setup file had calibration errors in it.

    · Gear ratio table numbers displayed 10 times higher than they should have.

    · When double clicking to edit a table cell the text didn't come up already selected.

    · When views were deleted, a new view was not always selected as the current settings panel.

    · When IAT Ignition trim was set to use a 3D table, the table did not appear in the right place.

  6. Most idle valves operate in the 150hz to 300hz range. The bosch valve need to be as Simon said around 200 to 300hz. If you have it set too low you will not get correct control.

If you need to know the actually value, look at a Audi workshop manual, or use an oscilloscope to read the Hz on a standard car. It is not that critical as long as you are in the 200-300 range.

Virtual Aux outputs, are outputs that do not go to a physical pin on the ECU connector. They output to the ECU processor. This then can be used as a value to turn things on or off. You can stack up the Virtual Aux outputs so you can control something based on many parameters.

  7. I have tested the traction control, and it does not work correctly. I have been trying to get it fixed. The manufacture of Vipec is telling people it works, and I am the only one that says it does not work correctly. I do have quite a bit of traction control experience, and it just does not go close to what we all have been waiting for.

  8. You do not say if this is a plugin ecu or a standalone you wired to the engine.

If it is a plugin, then the ECCS relay is controlled by a component on the base board. This may be faulty and holding the ECCS relay on all the time. If it is a wire in ECU then I cannot think of anything other then what Simon said.

  9. Unfortunately I did not write the help in the manual. It was written by a software programmer. I have constantly battled people mapping engines not using the features that were put into the Vipec, to make it easy to tune and not be like other make ECU. The help is full of Link mapping methods. None of them should be there, as the Vipec was my ECU.

I have given you an example of why engine temperature does not have a big effect on air temperature when the engine is at WOT, and the IAT table is used to correct for changes in air temp. Mounting the IAT as close as you can get to the cylinder the more accurate it will be.

  10. In another life...The ECU had a fuel correction table based on the percentage the engine hardware effected the air in the cylinder. This is a better method, but still needed some work to get correct. Downside was you had no control over the effect the IAT had on the final calculation of injector time.
