  1. Without getting into detail on how ECU's compare to each other ... I can tell you that tuning yourself wont save any money. If you are planning to sink enough money into an EVO to get a reliable 500hp, then tuning will be a minimal expense. If you go at it without the right tools (ie a dyno, gas analyser and about 10 years experience), you will really be let down with the result and probably not acheive your desired power figures or possibly pop the motor. The best way to do it is to get it professionally tuned, then have a play with it yourself after its done. At least then you have a good base tune to start from andd go bakc to... of course, if the tuner gets it right, then you should never need to play with it. All of the ECU's will allow you to adjust all the settings yourself however.
  2. What about talking to the guys who do the Quadzilla project? Also, talking to Phil Stanley from turbo technology in christchurch might be worth a try. There isn't much he hasn't turbo charged or fuel injected!
  3. Dont need a dyno to test for this fault, just aa scope meter like a snap-on vantage. A good autoelectrician or EFI specialist should havwe one. You need to know if the EBC is working before you try to have it tuned.
  4. Hmmm, well unless you access to some test equipment then you may have no choice on that one! SuzySport would be worth giving a call. A good tuner should also be able to diagnose where the fault is.
  5. There is definitely a posibility that a fault is present. It is not common, especially on boost control, but a possibility. The way to check this is to use an oscilloscope or labscope of some description and check that the output is changing state at the duty cycle displayed for the boost control solenoid on PCLink (or tuning module). Unfortunately it is the only way to check that the drive is operating correctly. Best option is to send it to a Link dealer for testing if you are unsure.
  6. OK, it is possible that the firmware update did not complete sucessfully. The Link logog not spinning indicates that PCLink cannot talk to the ECU. Try re-installing the latest firmware. Make sure that you read all the notes on the firmware pages about changes in each version. There is no need to install each update, just the latest. Sometimes USB-Serial converters can cause difficulties doing firmware upgrades, it is best done with a direct serial connection. Note that there is a new version (1.2.0) to be released probably next week.
  7. This is a version 4 LEM assembled on 28/08/02. To find out what engine it is configured for you willneed to remove the top and get the detaisl off the sub-board.
  8. Did you attempt to retune the ECU's boost control after fitting the new turbo? What exactly was the problem with boost control after the turbo change?
  9. You may need to get your LEM modified for the EVO if it was originally not set up for it. I would also recommend an upgrade to V5 so you can use PC tune. It will probably be similar price as a tuning module...
  10. Yup... you need a SerialLink or ComLink and PCLink V2.5
  11. Well, first place to start is to check that you have stable RPM while cranking. then get an LED (with 680 ohm resistor) and put it between the Ig1 out (blue wire) and ground and check that it flashes while cranking. This will indicate that the ECU is trying to fire a spark. Next is to recheck your ignitor wiring. Dont use an LED on the coil negative wire as you will probably pop it even with a resistor...
  12. The sticker on the sub-board micro should say SUBWRX2k for your application. If it has this then you are OK otherwise contact a Link delaer for a sub-board change. The same board is used for US and JDM subby's after about 2000. Before that they had seperate sub-boards.
  13. It was not removed as such, as the new G2/G3 platform was a complete new system, it just hasn't been added yet!!! A new and better type of "Aurto tune" will be released for G2/G3 ECU's sometime in the near future...
  14. You should expect the car to go slower upon fitting the ECU!!! This is because the ECU will have a "Safe" tune as standard... However, after having it professionally tuned, you should expect some power gains as you can then make the most of your modifications and get past the limitations of the factory ECU. It is important to realise that you MUST get the ECU tuned...
  15. Apparently a few people have, but depends on your application!
  16. The decision to design and build any new Plug-In ECU is based on demand ... If there is no demand (even though it might seem like its a really good idea) there will be no new ECU! We have had alot of people doing the twin to single turbo conversion but they typically ask for a LinkPlus G2 and do the wire-in. We offer HeaderLink borads for alot of common ECU plugs that allow you to wire to this board rather than modify factory wiring... but I cant tell you if we have one that fits the legacy connectors without seeing it.
  17. The Link Forums have been upgraded! OK so they are still pretty basic, but they will get there! We encourage you to edit your profiles and add pictures to your account. Do this by clicking on preferences at the top middle of the screen. Please let me know if you have any issues or find any problems with the forums. Thanks Ashley Duncan - Forum Moderator
