"Be sure to let us know what the was. For future reference..." Dont know what cause this problem. We send ECU to person who has know-how in ECU repairing, coding etc. He just run firmware update...... done!! "The problem is that you don't have read/write access to that folder" As said before. Maybe 4 laptops that we use have hidden protection or whatever.

Problem solved. Thanks to all people for your assistance. Will let you know when installed on car.

Another problem raising. My friend not able to connect ECU to computer. Probably ECU is OFF. What pin number to power ECU on? Is ECU able to communicate to laptop without all wires attached?

ECU taken out sending to friend to try. I let him know to do your steps.

Try to disable inheritance. Not workable.

"Andi you still haven't done this bit yet" Sorry forgot to do that. Will do it today.

"Have you tried another communication cable?" Try some USB cables. Display same error message.

"Where are you located? It may be worth visiting a local Link dealer" We are in Batam, Indonesia. As far as we know there is no Link dealer here. We must bring ECU to Singapore or Jakarta.

"Have you tried another communication cable?" Havent tried. I think there is no problem with USB cable. Anyway we will try your suggestion.

"did you have a look in the Firmware folder for the tempqw file?" There is no tempqw file after running firmware update. Firmware folder isnt changed either firmware update executed or not.

Still unable to update firmware. Same error message.

"When you close PCLink, do you get a window that pops up and says "Abnormal Program Termination"?" No. It closes normally except show pop up window display "cant save...." (forgot exactly) when make some changes to PCLink such as from manual to auto connection. "Can you go to the firmware folder, if the tempqw file is there, can you delete it and try again?" I dont check PCLink folder. We will try again this afternoon. No access to ECU right now (still at work).

"I can see it says the ECU has firmware 4.10.2. Has it worked despite the error?" Cant run engine after failing to update firmware at first attempt. It shows ECU in boot mode. At this time we dont care what firmware version as long as engine running.

Another try this morning. No luck.

"We see this a lot with people who install PCLink to Program Files thinking they know better than we do" PCLink installed at C:\Link G4 by default. We change folders to solve problem since we do not know exactly what to do. At least we have efforts not just asking/posting something without trying. Good for us and not to bother other people with our problem.

"Could it be something seemingly unrelated like for instance windows regional/language settings" We have this problem before when using ECUM*****. Always display "This device is not able to work with US Windows version!" At that time we use laptops bought in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, all fail. It takes several weeks to connect ECU to laptop. "another quick test you could try that might confirm if there really is any write access problem" See attachment. Our problem is not firmware upgrade when installing ECUM*****. ECU isnt able to connect to laptop via USB port. Always display "This device is not able to work with US Windows version!"

"maybe a anti virus program" No anti virus installed except Microsoft pre-installed security programs (Windows 10). We do not install anti virus on Windows 7 as suggested by Adamw. It is confusing and frustrating.

How come all 4 different laptops, 2 Windows 10 64 bit, 1 Windows 8 64 bit and 1 Windows 7 32 bit don't have read/write access to that folder no matter where it is installed? We try to log with different users (admin and standard) not workable either. "Did you copy the Link G4 folder and paste it to C:\?" We do not copy "Link G4 folder and paste it to C:\". We install software http://www.linkecu.com/pclink/PCLink V4.10.2.1784 Setup.exe and other versions. Then we select where Link G4 folder should be placed.

I say it wrong. Cant run "Restore to Factory Settings" because ECU isnt able to connect to laptop (offline). The only way to get ECU connected is by running firmware update.

"Its Sunday here in NZ right now so Simon will be back tomorrow morning" My friend send emails to Ross and Simon before I post the problem in this forum. Their advises can not solve this problem. "Have you tried to restore to factory settings then redo the firmware upgrade" Do you mean "ECU Controls -> Restore to Factory Settings"? Cant do this option. It says ECU in boot mode and need to run Update Firmware. Will take screenshot later.
