Escort Cosworth Crank Trigger - 4 lug or 36-1 - benefits?

Evening all, I'm currently running a Fury with the original factory Weber P8 trigger setup - 4 point Crank trigger and a 2 point pickup for the Cam trigger. I have the opportunity to swap to a 36-1 crank trigger and a single point Cam trigger. Can anyone give their opinion on whether the higher resolution Crank trigger and single pickup Cam trigger would be the better route to go down over the original setup? Is there going to be any noticeable difference to drivability?

Thanks in advance!

With 36-1 you will have more stable timing at low speeds (not usually a big benefit except with high comp engines), but the main benefit is you will have much less timing drift during rapid acceleration.  With a low tooth count you get significantly more advance than commanded during engine acceleration so you often need a more conservative ignition map to keep knock under control during acceleration which will consequently affect power at steady state also.

How much difference it makes is anyone’s guess but on the few examples I have done where I have tuned before and after it is always noticeable and worthwhile.

4 tooth is crap. Functional, but crap.

That said....there's a Mk1 Escort drag car in Malta with a YB that runs 7.3 at 187mph and it is using a 4 tooth wheel. No idea what ecu though. So primitive can work !

IMO though, the likes of a 36-1 or 36-2 should be considered a basic standard for any build....because it's just well proven all over the world.
