EMS Solution for JDM SUBARU GC8 STI

Recommended Posts

Guest |912|

Hi,

I'm lookging for an ems solution for my JDM 1999 subaru sti type R. I would like to retain the use of knock control and have daily drivability. Also would like to get away from using the MAF. Here is the current build description:

JDM 2.0 sti heads

USDM 2.5 STI Block

Forged internals

Blouch dom 3 xtr

fmic

tmoc

3 port boost soleniod

k&n intake kit

850 CC Injectors

equal lenght headers

3 inch turbo back exhaust (no cats, no resonators)

AEM a/f meter

Currently my stock ecu is being used and tuned using ecutek however i'm having a hard time controlling the 850 cc injectors as i'm running too rich before it hits boost. max boost is set at 21 psi using 91 octane fuel (95 ron)

The Vipec PnP setup would be ideal !

We have several GC8's running like this, no problems.

There are aftermarket knock control system that will work but keep in mind that knock control not always works perfectly at high rpm's.

Here we do it without knock control, just a matter of having it mapped properly (using knock control) and good fuel (RON98 here).

No issues at all !

Would highly recommend it !

Yes tune the ignition correctly and use the same fuel all the time, and you do not need knock control. Some third world countries like the USA do not have consistent fuel.. ;) Never understood this as in other countries the fuel it all made the same.

Not sure if it's worse or better than in the US but fuel quality in Europe can also be inconsistent to the point of provoking knock under "high" boost (I use a J&S Safeguard wired upstream).
