Joshua Brebner
hi im currently running link plus g2 ecu with 2.5 bar map sensor on my charade gtti, running dual stage boost 12 psi - 24psi, i understand 21-22psi is max for 2.5bar map sensor, what are the implications of me going past designated boost for map? it seems to run fine but more knowledge on this would be great. cheers. Scott
Hi Joshua, Eventually the MAP sensor will stop reading more pressure (around 2.5 bar absolute) and even if your boost pressure increases, the MAP sensor will still read 2.5 bar. The implication is that your turbo is pushing more air through than it was at 2.5 bar, and your ECU will be supplying the correct amount of fuel for 2.5 bar, therefore your engines Air/Fuel ratio will start to lean out and there is the potential for engine damage. Hope this clarifies things, Scott.
Joshua Brebner
Thanks, that sums it up for me very well. I spose i better drop the boost. If i was wanting to raise it again i guess i would need the gold 7.5 bar map sensor, what is the price like on these?
Scott
Hi Joshua, We stock 3, 4, and 7 bar external MAP sensors apparently. Email [email protected] for pricing information. Regards, Scott.
Scott
Hi Josh, The 3 bar sensor would work fine. You would need to calibrate the sensor in PCLink, but a re-tune would not be required except for the higher boost areas where you are currently not tuned. Scott.
