ECU Fault Code 16: An Volt 3 above Error high value

Dear All

I got the follwing problems.

'ECU Fault Code 16: An Volt 3 above Error high value'

'ECU Fault Code 20: An Volt 3 above Error high value'

I clear PC error log and ECU log.

Afetr few seconds these errors stiil appear.

I do it several times but the message keep showing.

I turn ignition switch off and on, disconnected battery but it does not solve problem.

I disconect O2 sensor and temperature sensor.... still error.

Whats wrong?

EVO 6 fully modified with LINK Plug-in ECU.

HI, have you setup your high and low fault setting values under the ANALOGUE INPUTS TAB, bottom tab FAULT SETTINGS.

Hi, also check your Analogue temp input 3 is set to OFF.

Your analogue volt 3 is your TPS, make sure the fault settings are correct and perform a TPS calibration, don't forget to press F4 to store changes to the ECU.

Have you cleared the errors?

You will need to clear them, and then make sure they don't reoccur.

Can you please post your PCL file, so I can have a look at your setup.

When you have the laptop setup to the ECU does the TPS % change when you depress the throttle pedal.

Is your TPS a 3 wire or 4 wire sensor.

It appears to be a 3 wire but I just want to make sure.

Hi Andi,

I had a look at your PCL file in Runtime values I noticed that your TPS voltage with 0% Throttle is 0.81 volts.

Can you go online to your ECU hit F12 to open runtime values, select Analogue inputs, in the middle of the AUX window is ANALOG DATA VOLTAGE.

Slowly open your TPS all the way to WOT (Wide Open Throttle), monitor the voltage coming out of the TPS.

You may find it goes to 5 volts approx. and drop to 0 volts.

I have had TPS's that have the closed throttle position /voltage set to high, as a consequence to the TPS being setup to high at closed throttle is at full throttle the contact sweeps past the potentiometer sweep plate.

This leads to the voltage going to 0 volts as there is no longer any contact between the pot arm and the sweep contact.

Try repositioning your tps at closed throttle to a value of say o

0.45 -0.5 volts, then recheck your WOT voltage doesn't exceed 5 volts

Does your throttle body have a WOT blade stop screw, is the throttle blade physically going past the point of WOT.

Hi Andi,

Yes upgrading the firmware is always advisable.

Download PC LINK 4.9.9

Connect your ECU to your laptop with PC LINK 4.9.9.

Turn the ignition ON.

Go to the ECU CONTROLS TAB 3 RD tab along at the top of the page.

Select UPDATE FIRMWARE.

Read the page carefully,

Because your firmware is a few versions old, you maybe presented with a few different firmware update versions.

Make sure you select 4.9.9.

Read the update notes so you know if you require to make any changes to you PCL file after the upgrade,

but also to let you know of the fixes and the added features of the new firmware.

Don't forget to cycle the ignition OFF and Back ON when instructed to do so.

Make sure both your laptop and vehicle have good power supplies.

Once you have completed the firmware upgrade, you will need to GO ON-LINE to the ECU with PC LINK.

You can HIT F4 and save to ECU if you wish and go to SAVE AS What ever you call your PCL file and add FW 4.9.9 to the end of the name if you like.

While connected to the ECU go to the HELP tab

Go down to the ECU INFORMATION TAB and click on it.

It will tell you what version firmware you are running to confirm you upgrade was definitely successful.
