EZ30R Trigger Configuration..

I realized I posted my question in the G3 section instead of the G4 section. My apoligies. Does anyone have a startup map for G4 for the EZ30R that has the trigger config in it? I'm about to fire up my EZ30R but want to verify I have the config right. Current Config: Trigger Setup -> Trigger Mode = 'Subaru EZ30 AVCS' Trigger 1 -> Type = 'Reluctor' (hooked to factory EZ30R crank sensor) Trigger 1 -> Filtering = 'Level 2' Trigger 1 -> Arming Threshold = '.5,1.0,1.5,2.0,2.5,3.0,3.5,3.5' Trigger 2 -> 'Optical/Hall' (hooked to LH Intake Cam sensor) Trigger 2 -> Filtering = 'Level 2' Trigger 2 -> Pullup = 'ON' Trigger 2 -> Edge = 'Rising' Trig2VVTI -> Cam Type = 'Inlet /LH' Trig2VVTI -> Offset = '130.0' ATDC DI 1 -> Function = 'Cam Position' DI 1 -> Cam Type = 'Inlet RH' DI 1 -> Pullup = OFF DI 1 -> Edge = 'Rising' DI 1 -> Offset = '0.0' ATDC Aux 1 VVT -> Function = 'V VT Solenoid' Aux 1 VVT -> Frequecy = '300' Hz Aux 1 VVT -> Cam Type = 'Inlet /LH' Aux 2 VVT -> Function = 'V VT Solenoid' Aux 2 VVT -> Frequecy = '300' Hz Aux 2 VVT -> Cam Type = 'Inlet RH' I suspect the 'Offsets' are not correct, not sure about the pullups (should be off for these sensors I would guess?), Edge Rising? 300Hz for the solenoids? Thanks! this should get you in the ball park

Trigger mode Ez30 avcs

trig 1   reluctor filtering level 2    0.5  tapering to 3.5 for arming threshold

trig 2 opto/hall   filtering level 3  pull up on

trig 2/vvti   cam type inlet L/H   offset 72atdc

DI....   cam position inlet R/H   offset  192 atdc

you will need to check all offsets for the cams and crank  but this should get it going

I am having another issue now. The triggering settings above worked fine. What was not mentioned before was the trigger edge. For trigger 2 (LH cam) edge is falling. For my DI2 (RH cam) the trigger edge is rising. The engine started right up after making all of these changes. However, coming back to the car with no changes in wiring or configuration made, it is again not picking up the Trig1 and Trig2 signals. PCLink never shows the green 'ok' on trigger signals again when cranking. I have only been able to get it to pick up crank again when doing weird things such as changing various settings in PCLink, then reverting back to correct ones. Unfortunately I have been unable to document the exact steps taken to reproduce this. The strange thing is that when this trigger issue happens, the cam triggers are not picking up anything either. My two theories are a bad CAS, or the ECU somehow 'forgetting' the triggering yet still showing correct values in PCLink. I have the crank and cam signals wired to spec per the manual and shielded properly. My loom is not excessive in lenght, and is measured as roughly 5 feet (1.5 meters) from ecu header to engine harness plug. Here are my ECU details from PCLink:

MainCode Firmware Version 1.9.2

BootCode Firmware Version 1.2

BAP Calibration: 13

MAP Calibration: 1

Support Board Revision: 0

Main Board Revision: 1.2

ECU Type: LinkPlus G3

LinkID: 5002

ECUMinSpec: 3.40

What are your thoughts?

Coils should not get hot with key on engine not running.

However the normal spark edge for almost all applications is falling (dwell edge would be rising)

This could be an indication of another issue such as no igniter in the circuit. The coils you have are they 2 or 3 wire?

Hi Tony,

Your base-map is attached to your post above. I have a had a look and the only difference I can see between your base-map and the numbers supplied by Dave and Jason is that you have your DI2 (RH Cam) set to Falling, where-as Jason specified rising.

This should not affect you seeing trigger one correctly though. I assume you are doing a store (press F4) after setting the triggers up correctly?

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Tony,

Unfortunately I can find no record of what the solution was for Jason. It could be worth trying to message him privately to ask. One thought I had is if your Trig 1 (Reluctor) is wired the correct way around. Do you have access to a scope to be able to check this? See PCLink Help > Wiring Information > Input Signal Wiring > Trigger Inputs > Reluctor/Magnetic Sensors for some details on what is the correct way.

Cheers,

Scott

Greetings again,

I am still in the same boat as before. Sometime it cranks right up, others it never picks up triggers in PCLink. I emailed Dave a couple times as he offered to look at my map to see anything goofy but it appears he has been busy and has not had time. I am still at a loss and it is keeping my project from progressing.

I suspect you have ECU hold power active, Anti-theft or Duel ECU. All of these will lock out the RPM.

Check you digital inputs, and if using hold power make sure the DI responds correctly to the key position.

Only other things would be if the actual triggers were failing.

If you set the triggers to something else say subaru V1-6 and then reset back to EZ30 do you get triggers?

All:

Are the above maps used with the stock crank and cam triggers, or do they require aftermarket replacements? I'm in the planning process for a build using an EZ30R in a Karmann Ghia, trying to find the best option for a stand-alone ECU and determine what will be required beyond the ECU and related harnesses (non-oem sensors, trigger wheels, etc).

Thanks in advance.
