Explode64
How many CAN modules can be run off a single CAN Channel? Is it possible to run the Wideband controller, an additional analogue inputs or thermocouples off a CAN module and say a Race dash? Or does each module require its own CAN channel?
Adturb
You can run multiple devices- BUT you need to have 'ends' on the bus. The Link is one 'end' as it has a 120 Ohm resistor on board which is fixed. A lot of the aftermarket gear will either have a fixed resistor, or may have a switch for the resistor to blow it to be removed, but you can't have more than 2 in total, and they need to be at the ends of the chain. The help file has some good diagrams & info, and if you google CANBUS it should pull a wiki page that details a multi drop network. Next step is then identify if the devices have resistors and if they can be switch off/ removed. Obviously each device needs to have a different address. Hope that helps?! Adamw
Further to the above info, the main limitation you need to be aware of is that all CAN devices connected to the one stream/channel must transmit and the same bit rate (speed) and have unique ID's. With many CAN devices these parameters are configurable but some of the more basic devices will not be.
Explode64
Thanks I’ll have a look.Is there a recommended CAN I/O Module that works well with the Link G4+ to expand the number of inputs and outputs on their plug in ECU? Scott
There are a few options available, the most commonly used is the Motec E888. There is another one that I can not remember the name of right now, we assisted here on the forums to get it going. Someone else will likely chime in with the name of it. I also spoke with a customer recently who was intending to use an arduino to do this, it would be a cheap solution, but probably not the quickest to implement.Scott.
