Aux 6 GP relay high driver question

On my ViPEC pnp, Mitsubishi GTO, I have no ISC so I wanted to use Aux 6 as a GP highside driver for a relay.  Relay resistance is 73 ohms, which I assumed met the requirements for low load.  However, on activation, Aux 6 pin does produce 13 V but the relay would not operate.  I did try a couple of relays with the same result.  I ended up having to mess around with wiring and use a low side driver which does work.

Can anyone just put my mind at rest and tell me why it didn't work with the high side driver?  I am thinking something to do with coil inductance?
