Not really worried, just not used to it being that lean on decel. I guess I will have to remove the screaming warning in the wideband gauge

If your serial number is >10000 then the CAN will work.  If it is less than 10000 then it will need to come back to NZ for a modification.  You can see the serial number by connecting the laptop and looking in >help>ecu information.
I suggest you try Realdash, you can use the free version and plug your device straight into the USB cable, fully customisable to make it look however you like.  It works well on a Android headunit etc.  

See if your vipec is CAN enabled and if so get a plex usdm display. A million times more workable and flexible then using a phone or tablet 

Obd2 functionality was only added to G4+ and later ecu's (Vipec i-series).  There is no OBD2 if you have a V series.  
You can use realdash on android or windows connected with the normal USB tuning cable.  See this thread for instructions:
