  1. Hi Im having some difficulties with a ignition timing problem on the 4th cyl pair of 5 on a waste spark setup ford 'even' fire v10 modular motor. Setup consists of a g4 extreme- wired with 5 pairs of direct c.o.p units wired firing in parrellel (waste spark) off 5x bosch type dual igntitors (non dwell control), and injectors the same in pairs following firing order. Trigger is visually confirmed to be reluctor- 40-1. Sync is reluctor at cam- single index. The engine is running and all spark tests and injectors are phased (wired) correctly etc. The PROBLEM THAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING IS THAT THE 4TH CYL PAIR IN THE FIRING ORDER IS APPROX 18 TO 20 DEG RETARDED FROM ALL OTHER CYLINDER IN THE FIRING SEQUENCE. -WE CANNOT RUN THE ENGINE USING THE CAM SENSOR AS A SYNC- SO IT IS CURRENTLY BEING RUN IN 'TRIG 1' ONLY MODE. The cam reluctor signal is strong and trigger points are ok and have been experimented with and set to match known outputs from scope testing of relustors. I have fitted a degree wheel to the crank for testing and all the other cylinder pairs are timed correctly and have 10btdc shown with timing light when the map and max ign limit set at 10btdc. Trigger offset is 332deg and this matchs with visual check of crank wheel by eye. The installation has been wired with wheel and reluctor , the outputs are stable- RF is not a problem- trigger wiring was temporarily bypassed to check by running wiring outside of installation Reluctor outputs checked on scope and voltage and signal are over a volt potential at cranking speed of 400rpm. about 1.8v at current idle of 1200rpm. I have tried setting the engine to custom tdc and entering all cylinder pairs as per firing order with there correct 72deg 'even fire' order -NO CHANGE. I HAVE CONFIRMED FIRING ORDER TO BE CORRECT- PHYSICALLY CHECKING TDC WITH A TDC INDICATOR AND DEGREE WHEEL. Can anyone shed any light on the subject? I believe the issue is with the triggering- not the software settings. I am considering making a new crank trigger arrangement on the front pulley using reluctor and 5 72deg split trigger points and then I am hoping the system will sync with the 'unused currently' cam sync trigger. Ignition timing is constistant and stable - just that the 4th pair is out (Cyl 10 and 4 from memory). Am I missing something? I hope someone has some input. Any help would be much appreciated. 2. I am setting up the management on a v10 ford modular motor going into a powerboat.. I would like to run a g4 on it.. The motor has C.O.P type ignition. I what i can see, there are only 8 ignition channels available on the g4 stuff.. can it be set up in waste spark by pairing 2 coils etc dependant on firing order etc? or...can some unused drive channels be used for igntion to bring the driver count up to 10??? Injection will only be run in group fire/batch mode...so that will free up more drive circuits too...but can the be 're-assigned'? similar C.O.P units to the modular mustang v8... ta Rhys
