    Knock Control G4+

I have an Ej 25 with forged pistons etc. Setting up the knock control with the suggested frequency at 6kHz. It has been set up to allow the ecu to pull 3 degrees timing out. The thresholds have been set at 500 for setting up purpose. It is my understanding that once you have the engines noise profile on a clean run you set the thresholds 20% above for the load rpm ranges but it should not be pulling timing until the threshold is reached. For some reason it is pulling between 1-2.5 degrees out at random times at half of the threshold levels. Is it hearing knock below the threshold and pulling it out or should it not be doing that? Also the cylinders are paired for wasted spark 1,2 and 3,4. The way the knock sensor is positioned on the Ej is difficult in regard to setting the gains to get them even as it is closer to 2 and 4 than 1 and 3 which gives odd distances for the cyl gain settings to even them out. Is there a trick to setting these where you do each cyl individually or turn one or two of them off ?
  2. That clears it up thanks Stevie with the correct firing order.
  3. Ign Trim Tables Could someone please tell me which cylinders should be paired There is an example in the help files for wasted spark but it's for a 6 cylinder, so I'm sort of not sure. Sorry couldn't find anything in the search
  4. It's the manufacturers minimum pulse width.
  5. Long story but when my g4+ was originally tuned in my 99 wrx I did not have the manufacturers minimum effective pulse width wich is 1.5ms. We used a figure of .9 and adjusted dead times to suit. There are some issues with idle and time for the engine to go into fuel cut after lifting off the throttle. I added the correct deadtimes and min pulse width. The car dropped 4 afr's at idle from around 15 down to 11 and was stable. My plan was to change the master fuel to suit and was hoping to get reasonably close to the afr's through the map already on the car. Master fuel though is having no effect either up or down. Have I misunderstood this function or is there something else I'm missing. I tried on both opn and closed loop idle.

    Boost Guage

Thanks Scott. Only problem now is it reads 7psi in vacuum. How do I sort that one?

    Boost Guage

I'm having trouble working out how to set up a boost guage in g4+. Does it hook into MAP and I'd like it to read in psi with vacuum as well
  8. That is awesome. I had no idea you could do this.
  9. Thanks Dave. I sent you a screenshot of all the idle tables. Only if you get time mate.
  10. Closed Loop Sol Stepper mode. G4+ in '99 wrx
  11. I'm having a bit of trouble with a few seconds delay coming back from 1600rpm to 850 rpm idle target. It is pushing me into corners. What should I look for guys?

    Laptop causing issues?

Got a mate to drive the car today so I could adjust the fuel trims and pretty happy with the way things went after all the trouble. Thank you all for your help. I was starting to think I must be a bloody idiot. No more AC adapter for me thanks.
  13. So basically what I had to do was go into the AN Volt6 configuration that my wideband is on and select FUNCTION - Lambda1. LABEL - afr.CALIBRATION Innovate LC-1. Then when you go to connect your guage up, Select - Lambda1 rather than your AN volt channel.
  14. Hey Jas, I had the same issue. Had to connect the guage to Lambda1 instead of the ANinput. There's a thread on it here somewhere only a few weeks old. It may even be in the G4 questions.

    Laptop causing issues?

Thanks Dave. Yeah I was starting to regret buying the Link. Feeling a lot better about it now though.

    Laptop causing issues?

Connection speed is around 56Hz. Got back to it today with the laptop on battery only. prior to that I changed the power setting to the USB connection. So not totally sure what has helped the most but the vehicle is now idling with the laptop plugged into it and is much, much more responsive to fuelling adjustments.

    Laptop causing issues?

I have it on one of those gadgets you plug into the cigarette lighter for power to the laptop. It is worse than dropping to a stumble. As soon as I take light throttle off it will stall. I can't give you a log as I haven' been able to get far enough into using the ecu/software due to this issue. I'll report back on the connection speed, and I'll try it just on pc battery rather than on the cars 12v power. I had been thinking about an earth leakage issue but had not considered it being anything to do with the laptop power supply. It's the latest G4+ ecu with the latest software update.
  18. Long story short with this ecu. Having some tuning issues with it. I can walk out to the car and start it and will start and idle fine. Put a laptop on it before hand and it becomes unstable - won't idle, does respond to AFR adjustments in the fuel table but needs light throttle to idle. The connection baud rate is set at 625k auto. I follow the instructions in the handbook and help files for connection.
  19. Thanks Dave. I had it right then. The installation manual could be slightly clearer on that point.
  20. Should the IAT sensor ground be wired to the expansion loom or the chasis?

    Lambda to AFR

Thanks guys. My issue is solved. I was connecting the gauge to AN6 which I have the wideband on. It works as it should connected to LAMBDA1.

    Lambda to AFR

Thanks Simon and Dave. This is the best forum I've ever seen. Blokes who know what they are on about for a change.

    Lambda to AFR

Thanks Dave. I've got it all set up like that but doesn't seem to be working on the AFR. Getting a Lambda readout. I'll get it up and running tomorrow and see what happens. I have My wideband on AN6 on the expansion loom. It's giving me a AFR readout on the runtime values list, so all is not lost. With the NB oxy sensor, should I just turn that off in Analog inputs on AN4 where I am getting the voltage code and not use it at all so I don't get the error code.
