lewdachris Posted February 14, 2021 Report Share Posted February 14, 2021 I have a customer with a NC(third gen 2006-2014) MX5. He needed a stand alone ECU. So, recommended an Xtreme. There are three trigger configurations in the drop down menu for MX5. It appears that all three are for the earlier MX5's. The crank trigger is a 60-2-2-2 pattern and the cam has a 4+1+1 trigger wheel. If there is not a trigger configuration at this time, what is needed to get one. This car is racing in a class that doesn't allow to change the trigger wheels. Attached is a trigger scope. Correction it is a 36-1-1-1 crank trigger wheel. Adamw Posted February 15, 2021 Report Share Posted February 15, 2021 Further to Simon's comment, I remember there is one of the MX5 engines that doesnt work well with the Mazda 3 trigger mode, it will idle ok but gave errors when the VVT is advanced. lewdachris Posted February 17, 2021 Author Report Share Posted February 17, 2021 I have tried both Mazda 3 triggermode and the Suzuki Swift V2. Mazda 3 back fires in intake and exhaust. Swift V2 tries to start. It fires on maybe half a dozen cylinders then dies. This is while cranking, it has yet to start and idle. I have tried to move the offset around in both triggermodes. Unless really far from 0, I would think it is close enough to start. Do you have offset numbers I could try. Maybe trigger filter numbers as well(CRK 3, Cam 2). As soon as we figure this out I will summit the settings I have to be added to the help files for the NC MX5. ( crank and cam trigger levels, offsets, DBW throttle, and so on) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Adamw Posted February 17, 2021 Report Share Posted February 17, 2021 From your earlier scope either mode should work. The first step is check if you have realistic and stable RPM during cranking (say 150-250rpm). If you do then it is likely just your offset. You will need to check with a timing light.
