Im running a LINK G4 on a 3.8 V6 Series 2 Commodore motor matched up to Mercruiser Alpha 1 Leg in my Sea-Ray boat. With the stock Mercruiser motor, when shifting into or out of Forward / Reverse a microswitch is hit which retards/kills timing for a sec to drop rpm and release load off the gears, making for a smooth shift in/out of gear as its a dog box. I am wanting to set this up so that I dont "clunk" in and out of gear, and eliminate the possibility of the load on the gears preventing it dropping into Neutral. Can flatshifting be set up to work at idle rpm etc? Has anyone got experience with this? Appreciate any help or insight Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I dont know much, but Im 99% sure it has Flat Shifting option as we discussed this as an option back then. Was installed and Tuned by Protune in Manukau about 7 years ago. I believe it will be momentary, not remain open, but again can confirm. I have a new Shift plate and microswitch unit coming from Mercury (see picture) As pictured it is in neutral, The cam will move up or down depending on it going into forward or reverse, but the cam only hits the switch momentarily as it moves past the switch. Adamw Posted August 25, 2022 Report Share Posted August 25, 2022 An example to try below. Connect one side of the switch to gnd and the other side to a DI. If the switch is normally open then the DI settings in the pic below would be what you want. If the switch is normally closed then change the on level to high and edge to rising. The settings below would give 40% cut and 20 deg retard for 0.15s. I dont think the engine will take much cut at idle so I would initially try 0% cut and just retard only. I'll get the new shift plate in and set up, and throw her into Lake Rotoiti and have a play around. I'll let ya know how I got on! The rough engagement and at a times sticky disengagement of gears has literally been the one disappointing thing about the boat! Can't wait to have a crack at it! Thanks so much!!!
