Grant E30 2jz Posted May 9, 2024 Report Posted May 9, 2024 (edited) Hi, I am getting constant issues with trying to link my canbus system and have the pmu16 and ecu talking via canbus. I want the ECU to tell the PMU when to prime/turn on the fuel pumps rather than me doing it manually and I also have 2 fans on the rear which I want to come on at different temps. I have tried to look at other threads and download the files you have corrected and input the lines into my files but still no luck. Can you take a look at these two files and try to point me where I am going wrong? The car is also idling around 3k and I’m not sure why I am trying to get the whole thing running as it should so the tuner has minimal work to do. Could you please look into the settings and see if anything stands out? The following components I have input the settings for. Injector dynamics 1050 injectors audi r8 coil packs aeromotive 1000 fuel pressure regulator - fuel pressure sitting around 38psi Thanks again I will keep a close eye on this thread! Also thanks for your help I would not use any other brand of ecu after seeing how helpful you guys are in these channels e30 new settings 09.05.24.pmu e30 canbus settings 09.05.pclx Edited May 10, 2024 by Grant E30 2jz Removed a section which I sorted due to flat battery 😭 Quote
Adamw Posted May 10, 2024 Report Posted May 10, 2024 Ok, try these. Note you have CAN2 set to 1Mbit in the ecu and 500K in the PMU, so you need to first set up all devices to the same bit rate. I havent changed either as you will will need to either reprogram the keypad or CAN lambda (and dash if there is one). I set up the ecu to do the starter logic so you can have some safety lockouts etc. It is just set to normal mode for now. >chassis and body>starter control. The PMU sends starter button, high boost button, Ign sw, and the 3 lights you had already set up to the ECU. The ECU receives these as CAN DI 1-6 in the same order they are set up in the PMU. I have set up the starter, boost and ignition switch inputs in the ecu, I didn't set up any functions to monitor the blinkers etc as Im not sure what they would be useful for. The ECU sends fuel pump, fan 1 & 2, and starter motor request to the PMU as CAN aux 1-4. These are all set up in the ecu except the fan temperatures are just left at the defaults. I suggest you update the ecu to the latest firmware as that has a test function for CAN auxes so you can force the fuel pump or fan on to test. The PMU also receives all the data that is in the generic dash stream, not sure if this is needed or not but it is there anyway. e30 canbus settings 10.05.pclx e30 new settings 10.05.24.pmu Quote
Grant E30 2jz Posted May 10, 2024 Author Report Posted May 10, 2024 Legend I will attemp this now and let you know how I get on Quote
Grant E30 2jz Posted May 10, 2024 Author Report Posted May 10, 2024 @Adamw I changed everything over to 500k and now the dash is very slow at processing data for throttle position for example it takes a while to play catch up. Also I have lost my start button its not doing anything I am almost certain I have no communication between PMU and ECU what would be the easiest fastest way to check this? I can see the dash and ECU comms are ok but im not sure the PMU is involved Quote
Grant E30 2jz Posted May 10, 2024 Author Report Posted May 10, 2024 @Adamw I am going through the wiring now to figure out what is actually going on here because to my understanding everything should be working. The engine loom has the ecu can high and low out to the dash. From the PMU this chassis loom was built by somebody else from the pmu16 to the engine loom fuse box and they have left a small Can high and low plug with a small 2 pin plug on it which they have then spliced onto a comms style of lead and this plugs into the port above the COMMS port on the ECU. Will it be this giving me any issues? Is there any way I can try to trace a signal or anything? Sorry for the questions but 1. I love to learn and understand my own car and 2. I am trying to save the tuner as much hassle as possible please do let me know. Thanks for your help Quote
Grant E30 2jz Posted May 10, 2024 Author Report Posted May 10, 2024 Adam digging deeper into all of this they have wired the CAN keypad on CAN 2 of the PMU16 and the link to the ECU (plug above comms port) from the PMU is on CAN 1 along with the link for the usb to can connection for comms. Is this even wired correctly and can it work this way? Quote
Grant E30 2jz Posted May 10, 2024 Author Report Posted May 10, 2024 @Adamw any chance you could help me with this buddy? Trying so hard to get the car on the road Quote
Adamw Posted May 11, 2024 Report Posted May 11, 2024 Your hardware connections are not clear from your descriptions above. You are going to need to trace what devices are connected to what buses. The PMU16 has 2 CAN buses, the ECU master recommended convention is CAN 1 is used for the USB to CAN device then all other control devices connect to CAN 2, but that is not set in stone so you need to confirm. The ECU also has 2 buses, CAN 1 is the lower round plug below the USB port, CAN 2 is in the bottom row of the B plug. Either of these can be used for any of your devices. The round port with the red o-ring on it is the USB port, this is only for your laptop connection. Make a list of how everything is connected and I can update those files to match. Quote
