Unable to get G3 to connect to PC.  I get this message. "Unable to connect to the ECU. Please check that the ECU is properly connected, the power is turned on and the correct COM port has been selected."     I'm using a USB cable.  Key is on.  In options the serial port is set to Auto. I have re-downloaded the PCLink software (version 3.4).  This is the first time I'm attempting to get a connection (new setup).  Any help is appreciated.

Good morning,

I am assuming your ECU is a Link G3 and that you already have installed the latest PCLink for the G3 (PCLink 3.4).

I have a couple of suggestions for you to try.

1) Open device manager and have a look under Ports, you should be able to see your ECU listed.

2) If you are using windows vista or 7 you may need upgraded USB drivers. These are included with PCLink for G4, so if you download the latest version of that (PCLink 4.9.3) and install the USB drivers as part of the process. Then attempt to connect to your ECU again with PCLink 3.4.

Hope that helps,

Scott.

Hello !

I have the same problem on a Ling More G3 .

I was trying to make modifications to the fuel map, and my computer crashed .

Since then, when I plug the USB cable my PC crashes.

I tried another PC and another USB cable, but it is similar.

My device manager I have an unrecognized USB device.

Would you have a solution?

Thank you !

Sorry for my bad English, I'm French !

Hello everyone i have the same problem with connection, with the homemade cusb cable made following Adamw pinout  i get nothing and with a generic usb-a to usb-b i it shows up in device manager but the PcLink 3.40 software can't find it.i did try with all the drivers i could find on this forum.I also tried with an older win7 laptop the only difference being the it shows another Link usb under USB Controllers in device manager. thank you.

You need to use the USB-B port, your device driver looks correct and the PC is seeing the ecu.  If you cant connect like this then either the ecu is not powered up, or it is faulty.

So i,m powering the ecu on the bench with the 2 grounds, one positive and it draws current judging by the little spark the wire makes then i power it up and one small green led on the boards. The ecu was running on a e30 m3  7 years ago and if i recall the car went to a local shop to lean it out and the guy there said the ecu was locked with a password and could not get in, i've never seen it but after that i taken apart the car and the ecu just sat on a shelf. thanks Adamw.

i know and i understand this ecu is old and obsolete but to be onest i'm really frustrated that i can't get it to work because i wanted to give it to a friend as a gift and i already told him.

One further thought since you mentioned you had a homemade "CUSB cable".  Make sure there is nothing plugged into that 6pin round comms port when you are connecting to the USB-B, port.  Anything connected to the CAN/Serial comms plug (even just a cable not connected at the other end will prevent connection to PC Link.
