It looks like trigger error to me, there are spikes in RPM and dwell gets pretty erratic around that area.

So does it have a custom 36-1 wheel fitted on the crank?

A couple of settings I suggest changing as yours arent normal:

Change trig 1 filtering to level 1.

Change trig 1 arming threshold to match this example:

Thanks! I'll try that. Yes it's a custom 36-1 wheel. Not sure why the settings are as they are but they're the same as they were in the G3 map that worked OK.

  2. Hi,

I just upgraded my ECU from g3 - g4, and everything works fine, except that I get crazy misfire at 3000 RPM. Below, or above that, everything works fine.

It's a 13b single turbo engine. I have attached the old map, the new map, as well as some logs.

If anyone can help me identify the problem I would be very thankful!

    Best regards,

    Sebastian

I think you will have to upgrade your G3 to G4 firmware to make it work.  Once upgraded to G4 firmware you can also do a small hardware mod to enable CAN which is nicer to use than serial.  There is a cost of about NZD$200 for the unlock code to install G4 firmware in the G3 but it gives you a much more functional ECU.

Thank you for the fast and helpful response! I think I'll just update to the G4 firmware. I assume I can do that and nothing will happen to the tune, right? And regarding the hardware mod for CAN, are there any instructions somewhere to be found?

  4. Hi,

I’m trying to connect my AIM MXL strada dash to my link G3 ecu using rs communication. I’ll

I have connected the Dash rx to ecu tx and vice versa. In race studio 2 there are 4 options under link. G3 via vipec, G4, and two CAN options. But I can’t get it to work.

when the rs cable is connected I’m not able to connect to the ecu with the link software. So something must be happening.
Does the ground pin on the ecu need to be grounded somewhere together with the dash?

    Any ideas would be appriciated.

Typically in the ECU settings a multiplier of 1 and a DC of 50% will be the easiest.  A multiplier of 1.0 means the ecu will output 1 pulse per ignition event.

In the dash software you may also need to change the multiply factor.  I think /4 would be normal for a 4cyl engine with direct spark ignition.

Thanks for the quick reply! I’ll try those settings. For a two rotor rotary engine, would /4 also be the setting to use? Since there’s 4 coils?

  6. I have connected an output from the ECU to the rpm input of my AIM mxl strada dash and selet de tacho in the ECU software. But the rpm is not correct on the dash.

What duty cycle and multiplier should be selected in the ecu to fix this?

The G3 needs a small hardware mod and a firmware upgrade to enable the CAN bus, I believe the hardware modification is a free service if you return it to Link.  Otherwise if you are capable of basic SMT soldering you can contact Link tech support and they will give you instructions to enable you to do it yourself.

It will also need the firmware upgrade to G4, this upgrade has a cost as you need to purchase an upgrade code.  It was about NZD$230 last I heard.  It is quite a nice upgrade though, it gives you quite a bit more functionality over the G3 firmware.  Closed loop boost, onboard data logging.  Much better G4 tuning software.  Quick tune, many more configurable options for inputs/outputs and 2D/3D tables.

    Thanks for the reply!

I may considering upgrading, but since the ecu is so old I’m more leaning towards getting a new one.

To get the dash working, maybe I can use the rs232 protocol instead?

  8. Hi,

I have an old G3 ECU, and as far as I can tell there's a CAN connector on the ECU.

Can this be used to connect to a dash? And if so, what type of CAN protocol do I select in the dash config?

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards,

    Sebastian

Oh, and I should mention that I have an AIM Strada Dash, and when configuring it, I can select the link G3 ecu.
