I have tried both Mazda 3 triggermode and the Suzuki Swift V2. Mazda 3 back fires in intake and exhaust. Swift V2 tries to start. It fires on maybe half a dozen cylinders then dies. This is while cranking, it has yet to start and idle. I have tried to move the offset around in both triggermodes. Unless really far from 0, I would think it is close enough to start. Do you have offset numbers I could try. Maybe trigger filter numbers as well(CRK 3, Cam 2). As soon as we figure this out I will summit the settings I have to be added to the help files for the NC MX5. ( crank and cam trigger levels, offsets, DBW throttle, and so on)
