  1. Thanks for the help today setting up my knock control Bryce , I got the engine grounding strap , will install it tomorrow , I am still trying to get a hold of Sebastien for 6-8 months now , trying to find out what he found out from ViPec on my old ECU that fryed the DC/AC rectifier !

  2. Hi,

the ground wires for the sensors must go to sensor ground.

Pins A 24 and B 22 are sensor grounds, so you can solder your sensor ground wires to any of these.

Don't forget to use a 1K ohm resistor on the AN Volt 8 and 9 for the use of temp sensors.

    Regards

    Dave.

What watt should this 1K ohm resistor , since it is a signal it should be low 1/4 or 1/2 ?

  3. OK , i understand how to hook up my new IAT sensor ( using MAF air temp.) sensor type Std bosch NTC THIS IS FOR DATA LOGGING MY AIR TEMP. BEFORE MY INTERCOOLER

OK after reading the input signal wiring , analog inputs , using voltage channel with NTC sensor in the help section -- I SEE HOW TO WIRE THEM UP NOW but how do i set it up , i go to analog inputs , AN Volt 8, set it to GP input ?( it say for me to use GP input the sensor must have a 0-5V output , and I MUST know the temp to volt reading ) So if I use GP input , how do i calibration it for temp , cal table 3 , temp .output is in c -40 too 110 and i know the ohms resistance for each temp. from the unloaded resistance-temperature characteristic table for the sensor , am i on the right track , can,t use Cal 5 , as you can not put -40 in , and i do not know the temp. to volt ( trying to set up two coolant temp sensors for logging my intercooler coolant inlet and outlet temp.)

***** the Vipec needs more AN Temp points

Still try to find out how to do this , thanks

Thanks for the reply Dave , so if i am installing a temp sensor to AN temp 3 and temp. sensors to AN volt 8, AN volt 9 & AN volt 10 ( these are all on B connector) should i use B 22 sensor signal ground for all 4 new sensors , and if so can i just tie all four of these sensor signal grounds in on the sensor signal ground wire already there for Temp 4 or AN volt 6.

And you say if i am using any of the AN volt for a temp. sensor i have to install a 1K ohm resistor , does this go in the sensor signal wire going to the AN volt pin OR in the sensor signal ground wire , and do i cut the wire and solder it in line? OR leave the wire intact two bare spots and solder that way.

Sorry for so many ? , but got to learn some how and i thank that guys that spend the time teaching guys like me .

  6. Ok ,i know this may be a basic ? , but here it is I would like to add another IAT sensor before my intercooler ( data /info only ) ,i would like to connect this to AN Temp 3 and tag it as MAF air temp, so my fuel IAT correction would not be affected , the ? i have were does the other sensor wire ( ground go )

At the same time i would like to add 2 more temp. sensor ( intercooler coolant in and out ), i can use AN VOLT 8 and 9 for these sensor , and again were does the second sensor wire go .

    Thanks

  7. Ok , updated to 4.9.9 on the apex , after reading all the note from 4.8.5 ( that's what I had ) the only thing I had to do was turn the AFR target overlay off , also when doing this it asked me to select a point for timer #2 ( I selected off ) know I am looking for this timer- where is it / whats it for ?

    Thanks

    PS

Ya , almost forgot , now I can set my Baro (BAP) from 60 to 100 ) so that's fixed.

  8. Hi,

Download and install 4.9.9 from the ViPEC site.

Don't forget to let the drivers install also.

Once done, connect the ECU to your laptop,

    Open VTS 4.9.9,

Go to the ECU controls TAB at the top of the screen, 3 rd along from the left.

Click on UPDATE FIRMWARE, follow all instructions from there, don't forget read all notes, go through the files from 4.9.3 to 4.9.9 to get a full understanding of all fixes and upgrades.

Let me know how you go.

    Regards

    Dave.

Thanks Dave , I will let you know :D

  9. Hi,

when you go into the axis setup for the 4D tables,

You need to set the Y AXIS up as BARO.

    Then hit the INITIALISE TAB.

If you don't initialise first it will only allow 90 -110 for BAP.

This will create a default Y axis, you then need to add your own values.

So click on the first top value and make it 60 and so on for each load cell you wish to create.

NB""" The software will not let you create a BAP value lower than 60.

I tested this on VTS VERSION 4.9.9. for you this morning.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards

    Dave.

    Ok I try doing this , but it still will not let me apply it , I set the Y axis to Baro , initialise it , it sets the value at 96 , 97 , 98 , 99, 100 , 101, 102 , 103 , 104 , I change the 96 to 60 then 65, 70 , 75 ,80 , 85 , 90 , 95 & 100 , but when I try to apply it , it comes up with a Error saying Y axis values must rang between 90 and 110 ?

My main Code firmware Version is 4.8.5 , do I need to update , and if so would the update change anything else?

  10. Hi , its been awhile , I have a V88 on my turbod apex sled , trying to set up a 4D map in the fuel and ignition correction , RPM,s on the X and Baro on the Y , problem is , it will not let me apply the "Y" baro , trying to set it up between 60-100 , a note come up saying it must be set between 90-110 ?

    Thanks

  12. OK , i have my unit set up to do barometric correction and understand that it make baro correction to the main fuel table , what about the IAT correction , acceleration fuel table , does the barometric correction do anything to these tables. just trying to understand how this work. Lets say , the day you tune your engine the barometric pressure is 98 kpa and you tune the engine main map , IAT and acceleration tables ,then you go to an area were the barometric pressure drops to 74 kpa , i understand that the MAIN map does the Barometric correction , what about the IAT and acceleration table , if the IAT table was set up to add 1.5% for a 5 degree drop in air temp. of air at barometric air pressure of 98kpa , then with the same IAT drop at a barometric air pressure of 74 kpa , would,nt the IAT correction have to add less, This is on a boosted engine.

  13. Sorry Simon, but 50Hz is too slow. If you want to show what happens you have to have the logger faster than processes which go in the engine. 100hz is 6000rpm))). My engine revs till 10000rpm during the race. The next point is loop log mode. I have now client's Evo in the box with hole in the piston and I dont know what was because it's memory was full before engine was damaged. I dont write about unloged WGDC, Knock parameters and others... Vi-pec is very very powerfull unit but it has several weak sides which I hope will be decided.

So are you saying that the data logging at 50HZ is for 3000rpms , my engine goes to 11700 rmps , so this is why my logged AFR looks like it is off by a second or two when i am looking at my data logs , i seen where this is/was happening , did not know why , makes you guess at tuning where the lean/rich spots are .

  14. You should not be getting any trigger error counts.

This is telling you that you have a problem with trigger 1.

Can you run the engine and watch the trigger errors, lift the track off the ground and run the engine through the rev range.

See if you can see what rpm the trigger error occurs.

Or run the sled out in the field, slopes etc and data log the triggers, including the arm voltage thresholds.

Thanks , talked to the engine /turbo kit builder today , after looking at the data logs , it looks lake it is going lean under hard accel.( 80KPA MAP and up ) , the boost build so fast , guys watching me tune , did say it did have a pop to it when i was hitting the throttle , engine builder said this could/would give a trigger1 error and also what would be causeing the engine stalling .

So , increased (ing ) the load accel. fuel ,( HE ALSO SAID FOR ME TO CHECK/ ADJUST THE CAM TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER IF NEEDED )and get back to tuning, hope this works , i will let you know .

  15. sounds like a trigger issue buddy

    Thanks for the response

    Thats what i was thinking as well ,but do not know much about the triggers , Ray had me change trigger 2 /Type -optical/hall///trigger 2 pullup-on/// trigger 2 edge- falling/// sync mode - cam pulse 1x--- to filter 2 ( from filter 1) But trigger 1 is still on filter 1 ///trigger 1 type- reluctor///trigger filtering - level 1///multitooth posn-crank/// tooth count-24/// trigger1 arming threshold--RPM 0 1000 2000 3000 4000 5000 6000 7000

    .5 1 1.5 2 2.5 3 3.5 4

and i am getting trig 1 err counts , how do you tell if its a trigger shutting you down , is this normal to be getting these trigger 1 err counts???

    Thanks for any help .

  16. Running a V-88 on turbocharged sled ,is there a place to look in the program to see if i am hitting (shutdown) by a limiter , (Rev/boost, oil ) i have had accouple times when in then out and back into the throttle that the engine just shuts off , just like you turned the key off , nothing showing on data logs RPM limiter set at 12000 max on data log was 11600 , boost limiter set at 275kpa , MAP i was hitting 147kpa MGP , BAP was 87kpa and MAP was 234 kpa !!

  17. Hi.

I suspect you are running an old version of firmware.

Suggest going to the latest as the set up is much better and simpler to understand.

Mode should be set to Auto.

    Defaults of

    FTrim Limit 15%

    ECT lockout 80c

    Timer Lockout 30s

    RPM low 500

    RPM high 4000

    Map 70kPa

    Gain 2

Hi Simon , updated my firmware to the latest , i like it much better so far , thank you

  18. You should set it up as:

    Fuel equation Load = MAP

Fuel table Y axis = MGP

    Open loop Y axis =MGP

Ignition table Y axis = map

There is no application for barometric correction for ignition as spark advance is relative to cylinder pressure which is relative to charge pressure (MAP). This is the most common setup used by most tuners.

    Thank you .
