Tor Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 1) Can the DisplayLink be set up to show vehicle speed, and thereby be used as a complete dash display? 2) Why is there no Closed Loop Lambda on the LinkPlus G2? Will an upgrade ever be released? 3) Will wideband lambda values show up in PCLink when tuning the LEM G3? It doesn`t on LinkPlus G2. It would be great to have all relevant tuning values in one place (on the laptop screen) instead of using a separate WB display. 4) The LEM G3 will certainly become a big hit, but why limit MAP to "only" 1,5 bars of boost like the older models? In Norway there is a very big Cosworth scene, and this limitation is very bad keeping in mind that very many owners run their cars at 1,6-2 bars. I believe the LEM G3 would cause a big stir over here considering value for money if it could only sport a 3 or 4 bar map sensor......Yes I know a LinkPlus will do the job nicely, but in its price range there is ample competition between other top brands. ashesman Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 The DisplayLink can be used to display speed if it is set up on a DI on a G2 or G3 ECU. CLL on the G2... well, there is a bit of a dispute around here as to wether it is a good feature or not. Lets just say the CLL is not not included because we cant!!! The problem is that people seem to think that if an ECU has CLL they will not need a tuner and that the ECU will do it all by itself. This often leads to an incorrectly tuned ECU and unhappy customers! The G2/G3 ECU's have sophisticated barometric pressure and intake temperature correction that means if they are tuned properly on a dyno, there should be no need to be constantly correcting the fueling. Also CLL doens't tune your timing (neither does closed loop knock control). But, I would say that CLL will be released in a free future firmware update anyways. It will be wideband sensor based. Both G2 and G3 ECU's can display two wideband values in PCLink. An analog voltage input must be configured and calibrated for WBO2. The values will then be displayed in the analog inputs runtime values. They can also be logged. Make sure you are running the latest firmware and PCLink versions. The LEM G3's 2.5 bar (absolute) MAP limit is imposed by the actual onboard MAP sensor part. I will raise your point at our next meeting for discussion... Tor Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 Ashley, thanks for your reply.I do not miss CLL for tuning purposes, but for emission purposes. Over here in Norway (and all other EC countries) all cars produced from 1989 an onward needs to comply with a CO level of 0,5% or lower. All cars older than 4 yrs are called in every 2 years for emissoin checks. That is why we miss the CLL function. Cars are checked for CO and for lambda correction at idle and raised idle, and without one I`m afraid we`re kinda screwed......Regarding the MAP issue, I`confident that your product will be far more attractive to a greater amount of customers than it already is......Go for it, put in a 3 or 4 bar jobbie!!!!! ashesman Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 For our information ... can you not get compliance without CLL. I mean even if tuned properly does this still cause emissions problems? Has it been proved to be a problem or are people scared to find out? Quote
Tor Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 I will try to have a car mapped very shortly to see if it will pass, but as the cars are tested for lambda function (the tester will observe the lambda value and check that it is working properly) im afraid it will prove to be a problem.......You know, fitting a non-cat aftermarket exhaust is one thing, because it is easy to refit the standard one in time for the EC test, its a bit more tricky to replace the whole management system......... ashesman Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Plug in management would be the go then for easy to replace at testing time! We spoke about your MAP sensor range question. We can put a 5 bar sensor in an LEM. Modified units will cost 10% more than a standard one to cover the more expensive pressure sensor and time to fit it. Ideally we are looking for bulk orders for this option. Tor Posted November 27, 2006 Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 Yeah you have a point there, maybe we should look into making up some header looms......The main problems about the cossies is that the oe engine looms and various plugs are often very deterioated combined with the fact that they are (exept for the latest T25 Escorts) distributor based....so that means stripping off and replacing everything anyway.....Very interesting about the 5bar option, what do you consider to be bulk? Thanks alot for bringing this up Ashley. Quote
Arne Karlsen Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 A comment about smog-test...; maybe you will pass with a "first-generation" (1989-> ~92) car here, but newer is checked both in front of and after cat, it will not be easy to trick them...(earlier, a hefty dose of alcohol-fuel used to do the trick...)Arne K Quote
