E888 Expander Protocol

Just wondering if anybody can help me out, i'm after the format of the messages that are exchanged between the Link G4 and the motec E888 i/o expander.  I'm all out of inputs and still have sensors I want to wire up, so i thought I could bang together a cheap microcontroller with canbus and use that for all the low res/low speed data.

Also, it looks like the Link doesn't support the outputs on the E888?  Or am i looking in the wrong place?  Would be useful to have shift lights and other warning lights sent over CAN to the cabin.
