Missfire and Sync error under load

Recommended Posts

Currently running G1 Linkplus with sub24new chip board on a 3sgte celica Rally car, it was running fine, we have just fitted supra mk3 coil packs, Had the ecu mapped and set up by tunner and it has a misfire under load in high RPM in 3rd 4th and comes up with sync error codes, it will rev fine when not under load or if you dont give it full throttle, this is a big problem for me as the car is running at the rally show at chatsworth in 4 weeks, Lyndon the engine mapper seems to think there may be a chip ugrade to cure this is there any help you can give me.

Hi Warner,

Because you have switched to a wasted spark setup, under load the spark finds it difficult to fire and sends more energy to the wasted cylinder. This can create too much noise if using non-resistive plugs. The chip you are using to decode triggers is the latest for your application. Your best option is to switch to resistive plugs (and leads if they aren't currently).

The plugs are Brand new NGK BKR7EVX and the leads are Magnacor KV85's full motorsport leads, so both are resistive and i'm still getting this problem, i have tried switching to from wasted to grouped with the same result, is there way to cure this or do i need to change the ecu to get over the problem. which is a painn as the L1 is a period ecu for the works replica car its sat on.

No as in the injector cycle as a post on here said that cured it, but no matter what we did it still had the missfire and sync error in 3rd and 4th between 4-5000 rpm under full throttle didnt do it under 3/4 throttle only under full load and never did it with the distributor and this is not good being a rally car thats under full load 100% of the time

  • 2 weeks later...

No the 4 coil isnt a option as my car is a works replica and on the works car they ran twin supra mk3 coils all connections and earths have been checked coil wires from ignitors have been insulated to stop noise, please just tell me if this is a software issue and i will replace the ecu with one that is compatible, as i have 2 weeks till it runs at chatsworth show, that would be a pain as it took me a long time to find a new boxed G1.
