Guest |591|
i also forgot to mention that my injectors are low imp. so i will need to use the resistor pack, not sure if the stock 7mgte pack will work though. ray would know
Guest |129|
You're better off starting with the installer I/O table from the Vipec manual and the 7M factory ECU wiring diagram. Fill out the table first with the essential components and then figure out how many inputs/outputs are left over for stuff like VSV's etc. Here's a couple of extra points anyway: 1. Check Connector - No Longer functional so can be discarded 2. Ignition Resistor Plug - Doesn't hurt to leave this as-is, it's just a supressor for noise. 3. Resistor Plug on body ( Rectangle shape ) 4. C1 Plug located next to the fuse box - I'd leave this alone 5. Igniter Plug - Depends on if the V44 can drive the 7M ignitor, I usually change these engines to run the newer style Denso COP units from 1zzfe's or 2nzfe's. 6. Igniter Plug - As above 7. Progressive Power Steering Plug - Does the PPS have an input to the ECU or run a separate steering control computer like the MX83/jzx81/jzx90 etc. 8. #1 Knock Sensor Plug - Can stay if you're going to use an external knock amp 9. #1 VSV - Is this the purge VSV for the charcoal cannister? 10. Idle Air control Plug - This will take up 4 vipec outputs to control 11. Fuel Injector #1 Plug - to V44 12. Coil Plug - Depends on what you do with ignition 13. Fuel Injector #2 Plug - to V44 14. Cold Start Injector Plug - Cold Start Injector is not ECU controlled. 15. Fuel Injector #3 Plug - to V44 16. Fuel Injector #4 Plug - to V44 17. Throttle Position Sensor Plug - to V44 18. Fuel Injector #6 Plug - to V44 19. Fuel Injector # 5 Plug - to V44 20. Nothing goes to it 21. Start Soilnoid Plug - There should be a wire in the cabin that T's off this wire so the ECU knows when the engine is cranking on start. 22. Manual Transmission Reverse Light Plug = Not ECU related 23. Ground under Intake Manifold - to V44 24. ABS Plug for Manual Tranmission - Not ECU related, but from memory there are wires from the ABS ECU to the factory engine ECU 25. #2 VSV Plug for EGR - Are you retaining EGR 26.#2 Knock Sensor Plug - Same as other knock sensor 27. Horn Plug - Not ECU related. 1. Cold Start Injector Plug - Not ECU related 2. O2 Sensor Plug - Can run the o2 sensor to the ECU if you want for narrowband control 3. Cam Position Sensor Plug - to V44 4. ECU Coolant Sensor Plug - to V44 5. Radiator Cooling Fan Sensor Switch Plug - Are the fans controlled by the factory ECU or by a coolant temp switch in the thermostat housing? 6. A/C Coolant Sensor Switch Plug 7. Air Flow Meter Plug - Not required, but a new Intake Air Temp sensor needs to be installed in the plenum if there's not one from factory and then gets wired to v44 8. Instrument Cluster Coolant Temp Gauge Plug - Not ECU related 9. Oil Pressure Plug - Not ECU related 10. From headlight relay, it has been Unknown, but I found it, but I don't see where it plugs in. Guest |591|
Depends on if the V44 can drive the 7M ignitor, I usually change these engines to run the newer style Denso COP units from 1zzfe's or 2nzfe's. so wait theres no need for an igniter if i used the 1zzfe cop units? they seem to be a pretty damn decent price to. nevermind i was just reading up on a jz forum and saw they have a built in igniter, but sounds like the 1zzfe coil will sit about 1 inch past the valve covers, this then will lead to a problem at i think cyl 3 where i have a intercooler pipe, and i think cyl 5 which is where the throttle linkage is. Guest |591|
btw here is a pinout of the 87 7mgte ecu.
Guest |591|
this is the updated list so far 2. Ignition Resistor Plug - Doesn't hurt to leave this as-is, it's just a supressor for noise. 3. Resistor Plug on body ( Rectangle shape ) 4. C1 Plug located next to the fuse box - I still dont know what this is 5. Igniter Plug - Depends on if the V44 can drive the 7M ignitor, I cant run 1zzfe's or 2nzfe's because they will sit 1 inch about valve covers 6. Igniter Plug - As above 12.Coil Plug - Depends on what you do with ignition 10. Idle Air control Plug - This will take up 4 vipec outputs to control but i most likely wont be using it, or i will find an alternative 11. Fuel Injector #1 Plug - to V44 13. Fuel Injector #2 Plug - to V44 15. Fuel Injector #3 Plug - to V44 16. Fuel Injector #4 Plug - to V44 18. Fuel Injector #6 Plug - to V44 19. Fuel Injector # 5 Plug - to V44 17. Throttle Position Sensor Plug - to V44 21. Start Soilnoid Plug - There should be a wire in the cabin that T's off this wire so the ECU knows when the engine is cranking on start. 23. Ground under Intake Manifold - to V44 24. ABS Plug for Manual Tranmission - there is a abs ECU next to stock ecu 3. Cam Position Sensor Plug - to V44 4. ECU Coolant Sensor Plug - to V44 5. Radiator Cooling Fan Sensor Switch Plug - A the fans controlled by the factory ECU or by a coolant temp switch in the thermostat housing? the fans from what im getting are switched on by ecu when a certain temp is reached by coolant temp 6. A/C Coolant Sensor Switch Plug - i dont have A/C anymore so i dont think this is going to even be needed 7. IAT sensor - comes with vipec to vipec 8. Instrument Cluster Coolant Temp Gauge Plug - Not ECU related, but i will still need to run it. 22. Manual Transmission Reverse Light Plug = just a switch not ecu related. but need to run wire. plug is on transmission.
Guest |591|
been looking further into the ignition issue, i have found that some ls2 coils will most likely be the best route for me. They were the "round body" style. going longer does not generate any more spark current. To get 5.0 milliseconds of running dwell, the nominal dwell parameters should be set to: Maximum Dwell 5.5 milliseconds Maximum Spark Duration 2.0 milliseconds Acceleration Compensation 0.5 milliseconds Battery Voltage Compensation Setting -4.0 -2.0 0.0 2.0 4.0 Net Voltage 8.0 Volts 10.0 Volts 12.0 Volts 14.0 Volts 16.0 Volts Dwell Compensation 0.9 milliseconds 0.0 milliseconds -0.5 milliseconds -0.9 milliseconds This will give 5.5 - 0.5 = 5.0 milliseconds at 14.0 volts while running with the alternator charging normally.
