Race-tech dash setup with vipec

Guest |599|

Thought I would start a new thread as dont want to mix up with aim dash thread

Got a vipec plug in board and been trying to get it to work with my dash

bearing in mind already had it working with my old Autronic smc

The vipec is connected to the ecu adapter then DL1(data logger) then dash2

, the ecu adapter has been flashed with relivant conversion software, to send the "A"

to trigger the data transfer, which we tested and works

Got all my external sensors to work but nothing from the ecu?

tried the recommended 57k baud and request off/short etc nothing?

Went to race-tech today and we tried everything, looks like because its a

plug and play board with only one can port it wont switch to rs232 output

only usb, or something like that

Ray I think race-tech are going to email you to hopefully get to the bottom

of this hopefully simple problem

Thanks to anyone reading or with any input

Cheers Adam

Hey Adam,

Sorry for not getting back to you, or my thread about integration of ViPEC with Race Technology DL1 and Dash 2.

I have the V88 and worked directly with Race Technology to get it to communicate via RS232. I have notes on all the settings and some new Firmware for the DL1 to make it work. I am supposed to be documenting all of this for everyone here, as well as the Race technology guys, however my life is crazy hectic and I have not had a chance to do it yet.

I am not familiar with the 'plug in board' you mentioned, is this something different to the V44/V88?

One thing to note, on my V88 system, The ECU will not communicate with the laptop via USB if the DL1 is connected and powered up. The DL1 will always work , however the Laptop wont if the DL1 is powered up & connected as the RS232 takes priority over the USB

FYI

Set baud rate to 57K - check, Set data transmission mode to each of 4 options (under ECU config) A) & B) = continous at 2 rates, C) & D) = request short and long. None of these 4 worked, however I thought I was getting some comms as a warning light would flicker on teh dash on ECU reset. Only one thing left to try...... com setting 1) = OFF, low and behold when I turned com off, I got com = AWESOME!

So try 57K with data transmission set to 'off' In the DL1 you will need to modify the configuration file and upoad it via the CF card as usual. You will need to set the data channel up.

I will check my setup file and try to get the info up here for you. You are using the Race Technology serial cable adaptor right?

You need to change the plug on the ecu to rs232 and not usb, pop the ecu out its case and swap the connector over.

Cheers Timmmy for reply, but think its something other than settings mate, the plug in board only comes with

one can plug not 2 like yours

Thanks for that Mark, is it justa jumper setting to change it to rs232 from usb then

on the pluggin ecus there is another connector on the base board labeled can/rs232 you can purchase a seperate connector for this or unplug the com cable from its current position and plug it in to the rs232 connector this will have the dash up and running.

  • 2 weeks later...

No problems with connecting, once you get all info needed its simple really

In VTS set baud to 57k and request short or off

Make sure the race-tech ecu adapter has been flashed with vipec software

Theres a bit more info on the race-tech site under vipec where I did some posts etc

also some more info under aim to vipec on this site

Hope helps

Cheers Adam
