Nissan 360 slot optical sensor + crank signal

Hello !

I have a G4+ plug and play ecu for the Nissan CA18DET engine and I was wondering if, in conjunction with the OEM CAS 360 optical sensor (on which the G4+ can run alone) I can add another Hall sensor from the crank and run sequential injection, with crank as main and cam as sync.

Some said I need to change the CAS disk to a less resolution one or add another hall sensor with a different setup in place of the CAS, however I can't see why I have to do that, since the OEM CAS already has a wider slot that acts as TDC as far as I know.

What's your opinion ?

You will need to change the disc to one that has a single window for the "cam sync".  Although you are correct in that the stock disc coupled with a separate crank trigger would give enough information needed for sequential triggering, it would need a custom trigger decoder written just for you which is unlikely to happen.

That would be an option, or an AEM style disc if they are available for the CA18.

Hi Adamw.

Excuse me for resurrecting this topic from last year, but I've read lots of stories and they vary between no issues at all to timing drifts at acceleration or high rpms, regarding the 12-tooth crank wheel from above pic.

I would get a 36-1 wheel if I could, but there are no such options right now for me without getting a custom one machined with all the extra brackets and stuff.

12 teeth on the crank is still a good trigger option and I would be happy to run that. The less teeth you have the more drift you see during high crank acceleration, but with 12T on an average road car engine it is barely detectable, maybe a couple of degrees at max acceleration.
