Guest |737|
Hi All, I thought I would post this issue im am having up on here to get some idea’s from all you ViPEC experts. I have a ViPEC Evo 1-3 plug-in ECU running firmware from around October ’10. The Evo has been sitting in the shed for about 3 months with no battery installed. I recently have fitted a new battery, with the new battery fitted the car now will not start, despite previous to parking it in the shed it had always run perfectly with the car tuned last about 12 months ago. The symptoms are: - At ignition key ‘on’ the fuel pump turns on and runs continuously, the car will turn over but will not start (no spark) - I have checked all fuses and non are obviously blown, I have also replaced the MPI relay and the CAS, but this also has not changed the issue. -I have plugged back in a standard ECU, the car will turn over but still not start with the stock ECU (tried 2 different ECU's), however the fuel pump does not run unlike with the ViPEC plugged in - I can not connect to the ViPEC with my laptop (or a back up laptop) even with the ignition on. - There appears to be no power at the crank angle sensor with the ignition on Initially I thought it might be that the ECU is not getting any power, however this does not align with the fact that the fuel pump switches on (the tune in the vipec is for the fuel pump to run for 3s at ignition on) with the Vipec, but not with a stock ECU. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Lewis

Simon
I suspect the main relay is not turning on. Coils and Injectors will also have no power to them. The fuel pump could run if the ECU is not powered but the pump has power. This can happen through a back feed. Way to tell if our ECU is powering up is to see if there is a green LED lighting up on the board. (does require lid off the ecu case)
velocity_racing
Thanks Simon, ill pop the cover off tonight and check it out. If the main relay is not powering, would you think that is more likley related to a wiring/fuse issue, or that somthing has fried/shorted int he ViPEC board - causing a back feed and supplying power to the fuel pump? some one did suggest to me that it could be some sort of power back feed not related to the ECU, but then it didnt explain why it happens with the ViPEC board but not the standard ECU (ie if it was wiring related wouldnt it happen no matter what ECU was connected) thanks again cheers
