Chris_Nelson
Hi all, I've gone through all the help topics I could find. Trying to set up the ECU in my car for the first time. Get an error that it's in boot mode and needs the firmware updated. When I go to do that it just freezes up after about 5 seconds. I've tried: -Slow connection option -Com and USB, both manual and automatic -every baud rate -every port on my computer -restarting computer But I can't seem to get anywhere. any ideas? Adamw
What ecu do you have? Does it report an error when it freezes up or just stops progressing?
Chris_Nelson
G4X. No error, it just changes on the firmware window to not responding. I've tried letting it sit for around 30 minutes just in case it needed time, but that didn't do the trick either. It doesn't really progress at all, doesn't get anywhere on the progress bar
Adamw
Ok, moved to G4X forum. Plug-in? Wire-in? What model?
Chris_Nelson
The engine is a R32 from a Nissan Skyline. So it's a plug in. I believe the model is a G4X NGTR, serial number is 108843
Adamw
Does the ecu connect up and come online properly if you dont try to do an update?
Chris_Nelson
Negative. Whenever I try to connect it says it's in boot mode and needs the firmware update
Adamw
The only time I have seen something like this is when the ecu is not powered up through the power pin but is instead powered up via a back feed through an aux. Check the main ECU plug is pushed all the way home especially at the ends and not bent - It is pretty common for users with the Nissan ECU's to think the plug is all the way in since the bolt in the center is tight, but sometimes rather than the ends pushing in at the same time the connector just bends and the ends of the plug arent all the way home and making contact. The power pins at at the very outside end of the connector so this results in the ecu not receiving its main power supply. PC Link coms settings like below. If still no joy then I think I will get you to pull the ecu out of the car and power up on the bench.
