  1. The ground wires on the ignition coils are like transmitter aerials. It is very important that they as short as possible and go to ground on the engine. If they are long and bundled with other wires going to the ECU, you will get interference.

    Another thing I notice is you have the ignition coils signal grounds connect to the coil ground. The signal ground needs to be connected to the signal ground on the ECU.

  2. I do not know of anyone every doing a direct injected Mazda 3. One of the dealers in Canada tried to setup s Volvo direct injection engine. The big problem was controlling the fuel pressure pump on the fuel rail. Driving the injectors was easy enough. After week of trying they got the engine to start and idle, but could not control the rail pressure as the throttle was opened. In the end they gave up. I do not know if the Mazda would be as hard to setup.

  3. Make sure you have firmware that supports the latest revlimiter. If in doubt update to 4.7.1.

    Use the settings below. Do not select ignition cut if the engine has a turbocharger. Very dangerous for the turbocharger and engine.

    If you want it softer then this, then turn on advanced mode and set the control range to 400 rpm.

  4. The CAN will use information form various hardware that as CAN support. To do this we would have to add support as we just cannot make it so it supports everything out of the box. When it comes to adding data to dash streams this will be supported.

  5. Link are not going to be any help as their ECU do not have DBW, nor does a lot of other make ECU.

    The reason the DBW is shutting down can be seen in the real time data. The error count for the DBW will go over ten and the ECU will shut down the throttle. The reason it is giving these errors is due to the throttle butterfly not following the foot throttle. The common causes are incorrect PID settings and the minimum and maximum clamp settings. The wrong PID settings can also make the Auto Calibrate not fully open or close the throttle butterfly. This means you start out with incorrect min and max range values.

    I would set the PID settings as below and then recalibrate the throttle.

    Proportional = 6.0

    Integral = 0.039

    Derivative = 25.0

    Min Clamp = 80%

    Max Clamp = -70%

  6. April is still the date for the CAN an many other minor changes and fixes.

    The Vipec already outputs the Motec data stream on the serial port. It will also do this on the CAN port, but not sure if it will be in the first release.

  7. Because of the earth quake in NZ the traction control will be in the July firmware release. The building collapsed in the earth quake and temporary premises are been used. This has caused weeks of lost time, plus necessary test equipment.

    Sorry about this... Blame global warming... ;)

  8. The Vipec will have CAN support on the 1st of April. This does not mean anything using CAN can be interfaced. This is the reply by one of the Vipec engineers on your question.

    Possibly, would need to know exactly what the factory ECU sends to the steering controller before I could say for sure. It will be very hard to work this out.
