Sten123
Hello! Currently in the process of trying to get my instrument cluster working in my bmw e46. Mainly trying to get the rpm counter and ECT gauge working but no luck so far. First of all, would like to confirm if this old dinosaur is actually capable of doing what I'm asking of it, attatching a picture of the ECU. Assuming it is since it does have a port for it. Anyway I got a Link CANF plug and wired can H and can L straight to the clusters can H and L, is this done correctly? When I load up the Mini R50-R53 can mode it just seems to be empty, so I found a map which Adamw had made for an e46 m3 and copied the values for the RPM and ECT but the gauges are not reacting at all. I do not have an m3, would the ID's be different? The ECT is all the way to the right, same as it was before wiring it in to the ECU so assuming this is because of no signal. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong greatly appreciated, obviously it's something right...

Adamw
You are on very old firmware so update to the latest and set the CAN mode to R50-53 mini. If it doesnt work with that then you likely have a wiring issue. Sten123

Rechecked the canbus wiring, is it correct I only need canL and canH wired directly from the ecu to the dash? Can't see any problems with them, connection all the way. This is still all the data I'm getting when selecting the Mini R50-R53 mode, is that correct aswell? Seems like I'm missing all the data? Adamw
Yes, that is the only setting you should see in the CAN setup and ecu CAN direct to dash should be ok. With the instrument cluster unplugged but ecu connected and ignition on, what voltage do you have on pin 9 & 10 (measured to ground) in the main dash plug? As described pin 9 gives 3.4V DC to ground but pin 10 gives 0... Is pin 10(Can L) in the wrong hole? Update: I finally understood what the insctructions meant by ECU side lol. Swapped Can L over from pin 2 to pin 4 and now it reads 1.8V DC to ground, but more importantly IT WORKS!! Thank you so much for your help!!
