Grays Hill Can pad

The grayhill keypad is set to 250kbp/s by default, so remove devices from the CAN bus other than the ECU and Keypad, change the ECU CAN bus rate to 250kbp/s remembering to click apply and then do the find devices search, once you have found it change it's bus rate to your preferred rate and also use the send default comms setup button.

When I disconnect my dash the ecu disconnects for some reason

That would probably suggest you have a wiring issue too then.  Leave the dash disconnected for now so you can diagnose what is causing the ecu connection problem.  Most likely the ecu is missing its power supply or similar.
