Fant Posted July 8, 2016 Report Posted July 8, 2016 Hello, I have a problem with my ignition outputs. As soon as I connect them to my coil pack (Ford Zetec double coil, wasted spark) the dwell time goes from the value in the dwell time table down to 3ms. When I unplug the coil it is ok again (measured with a scope during cranking). Any idea what's the reason for this behaviour? Fant Quote
Fant Posted July 9, 2016 Author Report Posted July 9, 2016 The outputs are wired directly to the coil pack inputs (like on the ECU the Link will be replacing). So you probably want to say that this is not possible with the Link ECU, right? Quote
Adamw Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 Yes you absolutely cannot directly drive a dumb coil with a G4+. You will need a 2 channel ignitor such as a "Bosch 200". You may have damaged the ecu now but hopefully not. Quote
Fant Posted July 9, 2016 Author Report Posted July 9, 2016 Thanks Adam. Seems to be a case of RTFM. The aftermarket ECUs I have lying around here all can drive the coils directly. Actually I don't understand why there are dedicated Ignition Outputs when these are just regular Digital Outputs. Quote
