Anthony Parle
I seem to not be developing full power in my spark plugs and getting a decent spark. The engine is a EG33, with a separate igniter that does 6 coils and has coils on each head. What is the correct way to set up the ECU for this kind of ignition system?Attached is the current setupTony Edited September 29, 2016 by Anthony Parle
Simon
The critical setting in that menu is the Spark edge which is correct for you application. Assuming you are using a Subaru igniter. Another factor that will impact the spark energy is the dwell table. The required dwell is dependent on Voltage to the coils and the type of coil. Hi Simon,So is there a way to determine the correct voltage to the coils and dwell time etc?
Simon
Voltage wise you want as good as you can get.The dwell time will change with voltage. The attached PAD drawing (paper assisted design) shows how to measure the current and calculated the required dwell time to reach peak coil energy. Anthony Parle
Doesn't the resister cause the coil to take longer to reach full voltage due to the restriction of current there for the Dwell time number will be wrong? Simon
Only very fractionally as it such a low resistance value the effect would be negligible.
