MikeyTT
Having had a disaster on the dyno of my own making it's brought forward a new ECU change sooner than planned. I have been running Megasquirt (MS2 on v3 board) fairly successfully and it's been "ok" to get going on a budget. I'm 99% sure I'm looking at the Storm G4X, so at least that's sorted. I've been running Edis coil packs with the Megasquirt, which to be fair to them have been faultless. For a Rover V8, with a trigger wheel on the crank, is that still the best approach (it was 2005 when I started the Megasquirt, so old tech now I'm guessing)? I've read a little bit about tower ignition for the V8s, but I've yet to do any serious research. Is that a better bet nowadays? Edit: I'm UK based if that has a bearing... Adamw
Yes the Storm would be a good choice for an engine like that. Consider the Xtreme if there are any dreams about traction control, electronic throttle or paddle shift in future. Our ECU's dont have ignitors built in so you would need to add external ignitors into the wiring if you keep the edis coils. The Megasquirt usually had ignitors added internally to drive those coils. Or you could change to some different type of coil with ignitors built in. There are a couple of common VW golf 4 tower ones (one wasted option, one sequential), a subaru 4 tower wasted one, or you could go to somethging like LS2 or IGN1A etc. MikeyTT
MikeyTT
Thanks for the reply. I ended up settling on the NGK U2003 style coil packs, which have the igniter on the pack and the bonus that they're not too expensive either I also settled on the G4X Xtreme and Lambda CAN interface. Just trying to get my head around what the wiring looks like now. I junked the entire car wiring and moved to an Aim PDM32 too, so in for a penny...
