Paul Hassell Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 Hi guys, we started a thread a while ago enquiring about the plan to put 2x G4 Storms on our twin engined Autograss racecar here in the UK.We have done the 1st phase of the closed season rebuild with a full strip and nut and bolt rebuild, the 2nd phase starts this weekend with the Link install. We will no doubt have a few questions so hopefully we will use this thread to show what we are doing and draw on the expertise within this forum to assist us. Paul Hassell Posted January 27, 2016 Author Report Posted January 27, 2016 Very simple 1st question, I know I need a fuse with the main relay that powers the ECU, but what amp fuse is recommended? Quote
Scott Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 Hi Paul,My ECU running on my engine simulator draws 0.50 amps, but when installed in a vehicle it will be a bit higher. I would go for a 7.5 amp fuse. Quote
Paul Hassell Posted January 27, 2016 Author Report Posted January 27, 2016 Thank you very much Scott, with having 2x ECUs I am planning to run 2x relays (1 for each) I take it that is advisable. Quote
Scott Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 Hi Paul,Although not essential it is probably a good idea to run a relay for each ECU as I think it will give a more reliable system. Quote
Paul Hassell Posted February 2, 2016 Author Report Posted February 2, 2016 Does anybody have a schematic drawing of a G4+ instal to help me out with the basic layout, I have found one for an Atom which will help me out quite a bit but wondered if anybody had a storm one ?this is the Atom one.... Scott Posted February 3, 2016 Report Posted February 3, 2016 Hi Paul,We don't have a detailed diagram like that. The PCLink help does have a diagram showing power and ground wiring. It also has some charts showing which things should be connected to which pins for Digital Inputs and Aux Outputs.PCLink Help > Wiring Information > Power SuppliesPCLink Help > Wiring Information > Input Signal Wiring > Digital Input WiringPCLink Help > Wiring Information > Output Wiring > Auxiliary Output Wiring Quote
Paul Hassell Posted February 3, 2016 Author Report Posted February 3, 2016 Thank you Scott, much appreciated. Now I have another question regarding relays, obviously I have 2x engines and 2x Storm ECUs, now as disused earlier I am going to have a seperate relay to power each ECU, but am I am also going to need a relay to power the +14v for the coils and injectors, and if so will 1 relay do both (per engine of course)I am guessing I will also need 2 more relays for the fuel pump and fan. Quote
Scott Posted February 4, 2016 Report Posted February 4, 2016 It is up to you, it is more work to install a main relay and ignition relay per engine/ecu, but it will give you more reliability should a component fail or a wiring issue happen. You could make both engines and ECUs power up off of the one main relay and one ignition relay if you want to reduce work and cost.Yes, fuel pump and engine fan will require relays. Quote
Paul Hassell Posted February 4, 2016 Author Report Posted February 4, 2016 Understood, and the main relay on each engine would run all the +14v feeds for that engine. Quote
Scott Posted February 4, 2016 Report Posted February 4, 2016 The main relay on each engine/ECU will supply +14v to other relays and to some devices directly. This image from the help file shows the way we recommend doing it, Quote
Paul Hassell Posted February 4, 2016 Author Report Posted February 4, 2016 That all makes perfect sense now, thanks Scott. Scott 1 Quote
Paul Hassell Posted March 29, 2016 Author Report Posted March 29, 2016 Well after taking my time, checking and double checking the full installation is finished and I am delivering the car to the Rolling Road this evening for mapping. I must admit it was more of a task than I had anticipated but I am very pleased with my first ever installation, I would love to post up some pictures but can't seem to get them to load, any help much appreciated. Scott Posted March 29, 2016 Report Posted March 29, 2016 Hi Paul,Well done on getting the installation finished. I think we all under estimate how long something like this can take. Good luck with the dyno, I'll be interested in hearing how you get on.Normally you would click on the 'choose files...' link to add the photos.Alternatively you can email me the photos and I will add them to your message. Paul Hassell Posted April 22, 2016 Author Report Posted April 22, 2016 Thanks Scott, I have tried uploading pictures but i just keep getting the message.."YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO UPLOAD 215.04KB" Quote
Scott Posted April 26, 2016 Report Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) If you'd like to email them to me I will then get them posted here for you.Cheers,Scott. Edited April 26, 2016 by Scott Quote
