Gavin Magee
Hi all... I have fitted a hall effect crank sensor to an rb26 as it was suffering from the usual factory CAS/rpm issues. It's using a custom machined 36-1 wheel on the crank pulley. The question I have is... Can I use the factory optical CAS for the cam sync/reset? Or does this require the higher resolution factory 360 tooth input to operate correctly? I realise I only need a single tooth input from the cam but does the ECU have the logic to decipher a reset even with 6 differently spaced slots on the cam? Cheers in advance. Adamw
No sorry, multitooth/missing mode expects either a single "tooth" on the cam or something that will work with the cam level type sync strategy. The 6 evenly spaced slots wont be suitable for either option. As a quick fix you can cover 5 of the slots with that aluminium foil tape stuff. MagicMike
I have done as Adam has said, cover the slots with tape. Worked, but I wouldn't use it as a long term solution. Better solution is a replacement disk (like AEM). Even better is ditching the CAS for another sensor/trigger combo.
