R33 RB25DET not starting using base map.

Hi, I'm here to beg for help, with very little to offer myself, except beer money.

I was rather optimistic in hoping that I would get the car running on the base map. It has the usual bolt-ons for an RB25 running approx 410bhp.

It needs to be moved around the bodyshop/my yard before being trailered to the tuner- and I need it movable by the 13th August so am running out of time.

Would anybody be able and willing to tweak my map to get me going?

Disconnected and removed MAF, boost controller and Apexi Power FC.

I have tested the fuel pump/injectors/coils- all fine.

Fitted and configured IAT, Haltech Lamba, MAP, TPS, GPS (thanks Adam) sensors. Greddy boost solenoid rewired from previous set up- not 100% on this but don't think its stopping the engine from starting, and a digital dash which is not currently connected to the original dash inputs (indicators, tacho etc) just the ECU via CAN2 and the GPS module.

I suspect it's a trigger issue but am way too out of my depth here, but in too deep to refit the Power FC and take it to someone clever under it's own power.

I have attached the RB25DET base map, with the additions above. The rest of the map should be untouched.

I am happy to supply phone number/email to anyone that can help if it would make it less of a ball ache!

Thanks for reading.

Dave

Please attach a log of it cranking.  Have you checked base timing?

Thank you, I will be able to attach the log in approximately 17 hours from now.

As for the base timing- I have it TDC with the crank pulley aligned. The timing (mechanically) should be fine as it was running on the Apexi ECU faultlessly. Electronically, the timing could be doing anything as I don't understand it!

Trigger offset would be the first thing to check, get yourself a timing light and partner to help you out.

I will do- as soon as it starts that is.

running stock Crank Angle Sensor?

Yes I am.

Are you Abbey from Oxted? I was going to call this week hoping you'd be enthusiastic about mapping this for me when it's ready.

You might not remember me but I brought my other car to you a year or two ago- a Black Tommykaira.

Apologies for my ignorance thus far gentlemen. I am more up to speed with terminology etc now.

I have set the base timing with 29deg offset angle, and the car shows 10deg BTDC on the crank pulley.

I still had no luck with starting. Looking at the log, at approx 7 seconds in, it reads the ignition timing to be 390deg BTDC and ignition angle 10.8deg BTDC. Does this mean I now have the base timing 360deg out?

I have attached a log of this.

That is injector timing, not ignition timing.  This is normal, you inject fuel into the port before the intake stroke.

In that log the dwell shows zero the whole time, but it is a bit of an odd log, it looks like the ecu has disconnected during cranking, so im not sure it is relevant.

Battery voltage shows 7.0V at the begining of cranking so the ecu probably shut down.  You may have a bad main battery connection somewhere or possibly a tired or flat battery.  Can you try to improve that.

Thanks Adam,

The ECU does disconnect, the turbo timer is the cause. The battery did need a charge although it is nearly new. Interestingly, the voltage does drop low when cranking still.

I have attached a log of yesterday's attempt. I've added a couple of parameters but perhaps you could advise me exactly what you would like in the log file? (using the idiot's language!).

Thanks

Dave

Batt voltage still drops to 6.3V in your log so you need to investigate that, possibly the ECCS relay.

Your RPM is droping to zero during cranking so that suggests a trigger issue.  It could be the CAS switching off due top low voltage or it could be a trigger issue.  Do a triggerscope while cranking.
