neil brown
hi guys a small problem here my ecu cut s out usually with in 5 minutes of starting the car, as the voltage shown on the link hand controller varies between 13.8 and 14.4, now and again it goes over 15v dc and shits the ecu down , but the battery voltage doesnt go over 14v as checked by electrical meter is there some thing on the ecu board that regulates the dc voltage input that could be failing, nothing showning burnt on distorted on the ecu much help is welcomed Neil
neil brown
also can an air temp sensor be added to this ecu, instead of a preset value ?
Simon
In theory on the old G1 ECUs you should be safe up to at least 16V if it goes over this voltage for an extended time then the smoke is likely to get out. To really see what the voltage is doing at the ECU you will need to measure it using a scope to catch any spikes that a normal meter might filter out. If you disable the alternator does the ECU still show unstable voltage?
neil brown
Simon will try that next time i start up. if it shows unstable voltage on the hand controller whats my next step already changed the alternator and battery and it still does it Neil
Simon
The next step is to check the earths to the ECU. These are a known problem area on older Subaru models.
neil brown
Hi simon all earths checked and ok is there a voltage regulator on the ecu board as suspect that is faulty as voltage spikes up and down without altrernator connected is it possible to add in an air temp sensor instead of a fixed value to this ecu
Simon
No way to add in proper Air temp correction on these old ECUs. There are two a 12volt and a 5 volt both of these are on the main heatsink that runs across the board.
neil brown
can i get them from any good electronic shops or are they specific to the link ecu got another ecu board and it runs perfectly
Simon
Most electronic places will be able to source it for you if they dont have one. Most of the time though it would just be a bad joint rather then the actual regulator failing.
