switch resistor ladder on analogue input

Hi guys 

 

wondering about the setup of resistor ladder switch inputs (xtreme for cruise control) 

im guessing a series parallel setup is going to  be preferable over a straight parallel so it cant have a weird value if multiple switches are pressed at once?, for series circuit have added a 5th resistor so circuit will rest at 4.47v  with  no buttons and not be sitting in fault, i assume the parallel  ladder may cause issues with no open circuit reference? 

have  calculated the voltages based on using a temp channel with the 1k  pullup

You could probably get even more simple, dont need the R1 or R5 as there is no range check. 

Toyota GT86 example below.  It will give roughly 0V, 1V, 2V, 3V,5V with enough margin to allow the volt tolerance setting to ignore any combined button presses.
