Stevieturbo
Try giving us some information on how you have it wired and the ecu configured. Will it even work for you as a simple relay, with no PWM ?
Amrit Sidhu
I know this has been covered more than enough times and I read through almost all posts and threads about PWM, SSR Relays and wiring but I cant resolve this issue. I have my Spal fan wired to a standard relay that is controlled by AC Fan in G4X using Inj 8 (default settings). I had recently ordered a SSR 40A DC to DC relay pictured below and re-wired the fan. I had initially connected fan +ve direct to battery and fan -ve to terminal #2. I then connect the fan as pictured in the diagram and it stays ON the entire time. I double checked the wiring on the relay and it matches the picture which others here have used with success. When I run manual PWM ON test, I can see the led on relay blinking as expected. Only after removing fan negative from SSR or +ve from battery would turn off the fan even when the led on SSR is off and ignition is off. Forgive my ignorance, I just recently started playing with SSR relays with the goal to run the rad fan at different speeds. I know I have made a mistake here somewhere but cant figure out what. I then switched fan +ve to a regular relay that would only turn on the fan when ignition is ON. This also results in same behavior with fan always ON but now with Ignition turned ON. Adamw
Is your relay a Fotek or an unbranded clone like pictured? On the genuine Fotek relays the +/- on terminal 1/2 are the opposite of what that label shows (2 is still on the right but it is the negative), so it is possibly mislabeled? Amrit Sidhu
It is exactly the one pictured in the post. I took the photo from their Amazon listing. I didnt think of mislabeled pinouts because the haltech diagram above (copied from another thread) shows the same polarity on #2.
Amrit Sidhu
Is there any difference if I wire the SSR as following assuming the terminals and polarity are correct on the SSR:

Amrit Sidhu
I was finally able to test it again and got PWM to work through the Fotek relay. It had same connections/terminals/pinout as I pictured above and it worked fine after I switched the +12v on pin 3. Previously I was using the 12v signal from the injector resistor plug (with resistor removed) and it was giving strange results with PWM. The injectors themselves have been working fine. After switching the 12v to a different source, the PWM works well now. I now have to figure out SSR cooling because it gets hot quickly usually within 5-7 mins. ozyvr4
I did the same on both my fans but I used micro relay that are rated to 18amps. I found with the slow turb on that I was not seeing any current spikes so the fans never see more than 9-10amps compared to the standard style relay I saw 18amps on start up. These are the relays I used. https://www.digikey.com.au/en/products/detail/e-t-a/ESR10-NC2A4HB-00-D2-10A/6490744?utm_adgroup=General&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PMax Shopping_Product_Zombie SKUs&utm_term=&productid=6490744&utm_id=go_cmp-17853854068_adg-_ad-__dev-m_ext-_prd-6490744_sig-EAIaIQobChMI2sq1h_ruhgMVpNEWBR0_9g0SEAQYBCABEgJww_D_BwE&utm_content=General&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2sq1h_ruhgMVpNEWBR0_9g0SEAQYBCABEgJww_D_BwE Amrit Sidhu
Amrit Sidhu
I am now using a known fan module from Mitsubishi, mazda etc. It works as intended and doesn't get hot
