  1. The analog knock amplifier in the V88 gives a knock level that is total engine noise. The digital knock amp only shows noise (knock) at the frequency you specified.

I often have people tell me the digital amplifier is not working (no knock level). This is often due to no knock (noise) at the specified frequency. A set of headphones is the way to confirm the engine is actual knocking at that frequency. Based on the knock level, you setup the knock target table limits.

  2. Eric,

Headphones must be used to listen for knock when setting up the knock control. While tuning the engine the timing must be adjusted so the engine does not knock. With the timing and knock setup correctly, the knock control with then protect the engine if the wrong fuel is used.

Knock control does not fix timing problems while tuning.

  3. The virtual aux outputs can be used to control a hardware aux output based on many parameters.

Example you have a hardware aux output setup as a GP Output. This gives you three conditions to control this output. If you need more conditions, then use the output from a virtual output as one of the conditions for the hardware output. This will give to 5 condition.

    Example:-

    Virtual Aux 1

    Condition 1 = TPS > 80%

    Condition 2 = ECT > 40 deg

    Condition 3 = ECT < 100 deg

    Aux 4 (hardware output)

Condition 1 Aux Virtual Value On 1

    Condition 2 = MAP > 40 kpa

    Condition 3 = Gear > 2

This would turn on Aux 4 output when all these conditions are met.

You can stack up the virtual outputs so you have many many conditions to control some device.

Another common use is for Virtual outputs is turning on the ECU memory logger.

  4. I have looked at the map and see nothing wrong.

The Vipec ECU does not effect the immobilizer. The immobiliser is elsewhere in the car.

I have read your posts again and I cannot see any mention of seeing RPM on the PC screen.

    Do this....

    1. Go online and press F2 to save the map to your harddrive. Give it a name.

    2. Crank the engine. While doing this press F2 again.

    3. Email me the map.

  5. If the map has these settings it is using TPS and MAP, which is good.

    Fuel Equation Load=MAP

Fuel Table Y axis = TPS

Ignition Table Y axis = Map

Open Loop AFR Table = On

This method uses the map sensor information for the ignition table, and as a lookup of the AFR table to know how to correct the fuel as the manifold pressure changes no matter what the TPS position.

Any engine with very big overlap cams or multi throttle bodies with a turbocharger should use this method. If the engine has one throttle and mild cams then MAP for the fuel table Y axis is prefered.

  6. The LC1 does not have a sensor signal ground. I relies on the all the wiring in the car to get a ground back to the Vipec. Run a wire from the LC1 ground back to the ground out on the Vipec.

This is why the NGK AFX meter is better as it has a dedicated signal ground. Also has a sensor that is not effected by heat.

  7. 1. Select a digital input as a GP Input. Set the pullup resistor as on and the on level as low.

    2. Connect the wire from the digital input to a switch that is connected to ground on the other side.

    3. Select the digital input as the switch for the logger.

  8. Any tuner experienced with tuning Autronic would tune the Vipec as it should be, as they use the same strategy for fuel control. Also many of the keyboard short cuts are the same. Any truly good tuner with VE based tuning would have no problem. Avoid any tuner that wants to map using just TPS, they truly do not understand the engine and how it works.

The ECU can only hold one map at a time. You can load in any map when every you want from your hard drive. Communications is with a USB cable. You can use RS232. We have a cable available.

JPC in Melbourne are highly experienced tuners. They have a lot of race engine experience running all types of alcohol ethanol fuels. They are also a Vipec dealer.

  9. The 2011 Dakar rally is on the 1st January to the 16th January in South America (Argentina and Chile). We have one car fitted with the Vipec V88. This car was built in Hungary. It was tuned by Hrvoje Hictaler (Hic).

Video of the car during testing

Final testing of Mitsubishi Pajero with which we are going to start on Dakar 2010 was done on training ground near Budapest. Testing went very well, the car functioned perfectly and personally I am very satisfied with impovements done on the car since April race in Derecske.

Improvement on the car was primarily done on lightening its weight. The car was tra

nsformed into pick-up and we took off everything that was surplus. These actions resulted with 240 kg lighter car. Additionally, engine was completely reparated and electronic from RallyArt and MagnetiMarelli were replaced with brand new Vi-pec electronic. Besides completely new program was made for engine with 33mm restrictor ( till now 32mm). By doing that we gained some extra power and torque.

This is the driver and navigator.

  10. I use the Siemens 60lb injectors in a lot of Nissan six cylinders. They will give enough fuel for over 500 hp at the wheels. They are 12 ohm, have a wide spray pattern which suits the twin port intakes. You will need a new fuel rail to use them, as they are top feed.

If you use injectors with less then 6 ohms, and the V44 is a older version without the LED near the connector, you will need resistors or the P&H box.

  11. 4.7.0 firmware will directly read the GM Flexfuel sensor. You can setup a table to make corrections based on ethanol content. Coming is full flexfuel sensor support. You will be able to tune on any ethanol percentage and the tune will always be correct, not matter what percentage is in the tank.

  12. I'm a bit confused, i think my tuner wanted to wire an AFR sensor into one of the ecu's auxiliary and have it monitor afrs?

You can connect a narrow or wide band 02 sensor directly to a volt input. The displayed air fuel ratio will only be accurate over the narrow band. This is no good for tuning or logging at WOT. It can be used for closed loop narrow band control.

If you want wideband, then there must be a wideband meter between the sensor and the ECU.

  13. when wiring the AFX to a car with v88, should the AFX's signal ground go to the vipec signal ground or chassis ground?

Either sensor or ECU grounds should be used. It should not be connected to ground somewhere else in the car. All grounds on the Vipec are common.

  14. The message you are getting is a Windows message. It is not coming from the VTS software or the firmware update software. I had a similar problem about a year ago with some software for designing PCB. Windows7 was reporting the software had stopped working. I forget what was the fix. Can you try with another PC.

    Ray.

  15. "RS232 is working in in overlap mode" is correct. This is not some error. The firmware update software only work with comm ports 9 or lower. Check you device manager and select a lower number if over COM9.
