Vipec evo 9 plugin, V44 or V88 or iseries?

Hi,

I have already a LINK G4 storm ecu with main board ver1.1 and serial number 4895.

Because of the setup I have already use all the pinouts and also I can’t use the canbus in order to add a display. I would like to add 3-4 sensors too.

I find a used vi-pec evo 9 plugin and I‘m planning to use it as a wirein.

The vi-pec evo 9 ecu has ver1.2 main board, ver1.0 bottom board and serial number 11239.

Is this ecu like a LINK G4 extreme plugin or better as a vipec V88 plugin or a V44 and finally similar to my G4 storm ecu? This is the first thing I would like to know, in order to use the ecu’s capabilities and the right tunning software.

As I can guess this is NOT a G4+/iseries plugin and I have to use pclink or better vts v4.10.2. Is that right?

The first reason to do this change is the limits from the storm (I had the limit of the onboard map 2.5BAR too, but I change it to 4BAR).

The second reason is that the used ecu I found is like new and in very very low cost.

And finally I think that I will not have to change the base maps a lot between the two ecu. This is the third reason.

I find this manual PlugIn Installation Manual (vi-pec.com) and this ECU features — Vi-PEC Engine Management and I was confused witch features are right.

First of all is that a V88 or V44 ecu?

Has this ecu 1 or 2 full working or only transmit canbus?

What kind is the onboard map is 2.5 or 4 or 7 bar? (This is not a big problem to do it second time)

Has this ecu 0-1-2 onboard knock inputs?

Finally in page 22 of the first manual it appears that IGN4 use 30 and 31 evo pins and AUX3 use 41 and 63 evo pins. Is this right?

I tried to find out the right specs but as it seems there are too many factors with plugins

Sorry for big post.

I will appreciate your help.

Hi
Just checked the records and it is a V44 unit so really identical spec to the G4 Storm.
So no gains in swapping over really.
And yes the Ign4 is connected to 30 and 31 pins, Aux 3 is also wired to two pins 41 and 63

Hi,

Thank you for the fast reply!

I agree there is no gain to do this swap.

The only way is to make the canbus working in my storm and then I could add a plex μSDM pro, witch can handle directly the EGT and some more sensors that I need.

Hi,

Even if this ecu is a vi-pec V44 evo 9 plugin, as I can understand from the link g4 storm evo 9 plugin sample it is a better-bigger ecu from my silver G4 storm because:

This vi-pec has 8 injector drives (the unused injectors can use as auxiliary), 3 analog temp inputs, 6 analog inputs, and 6 digital inputs.

My G4 silver storm has 4 injector drives, 2 analog temp inputs, 5-4 analog inputs, and 3-4 digital inputs, because it shares the same pin for AN2-DI4.

If these are right the first has 9 more pins/capabilities from the second, is that right?

Also it seems that the vi-pec ecu has a transmit-receive canbus in contrast the storm witch can only receive throught the canbus.

Where can I find the manual or the pinout from this vipec evo 9 V44 plugin, because in the site there is only for the V88 version?

Thank you.

Hi,

Now I have a G4 silver storm without working canbus, but I will fix it soon. Then I will buy a dash maybe from plex the uSDM pro

I leave in Greece so it will be easy to solve any problem in future, but thank you for your intetion to help me.

By the way if you have already a V44 evo 9 PNP do you know if this ecu is like a storm or it has more capabilities as I wrote to my prenious post?

I find this ecu and I 'm going to buy it especially if this ecu is like I wrote to my previous post, but before I have to know the capabilities of this.

As Simon mentioned you have little to gain from a V44 plug-in Vs the Storm wire in.  You will get 1 extra temp input.  Most of the extra injector drives and DI's on the plug-in have extra hardware attached to them for the Evo ECU hold power and intercooler spray system etc so cant  be used for anything else.  The V44 CAN receive is only for a Motec E888 which is a fairly expensive device so probably not a big advantage.  The V44 does have a couple of extra software features over the Link such as the mixture map function and configurable CAN bus transmit (Link only has a couple of fixed stream options).

Hi Adamw!!

Thank you very much for the detailed explanations.

Finally I will keep my ecu in place and I will fix the canbus too.

Then I will add a small dash such as the usdm-pro that directly connecting the egt and 2-3 more sensors since I have use all the pins of my ecu, but these additional parameters don’t adjust anything on the engine, they are for viewing only.
