G4x Not being recognized

Have a new link g4x plug and play in a version 1 wrx. Problem I'm having is that my laptop is not detecting the link. Not even in device manager, No comp port or link or nothing. Correct software has been installed, laptop usb's ports operate other devices fine. ECU is not faulty and ignition is ON. Anyone incounted this before?

Perhaps you need to "run as administrator"? i.e. right click on the Software and then click "run as administrator" from the options. I have had some weird issues with connecting before when remote accessing customer laptops and if I remember correctly this helped.

Laptop 1 year old & problems started after loading G4X PC Link. Could connect to G4+ & older as well as other ECU's no problem. Tried all ports, communication, baud rates etc no go. Laptop under warranty - replaced motherboard. All fixed.

Tested again on G4+ & older all good. Bench tested G4X monsoon as was ok first time to unlock code.

Plugged into vehicle - device manager  showed as connected USB comm port. but Link G4X wouldn't connect. Updated firmware, updated drivers. Removed reinstalled G4X etc etc.

So after 2 hrs with David Link UK & team viewer we found a pattern. Update firmware/ update drivers, disconnect & cycle power on ecu & laptop & reconnect & would allow connection - until I cycled key on/off on vehicle & wouldn't reconnect.

Long story but fix was changed following settings in Device manager

Device manager / port settings / advanced

USB Transfer sizes  Receive (Bytes)  - set to 512   / Transmit (Bytes) - set to 4096 / Latency Time (msec) 2 / Time outs - Min read 100 - Min write 100

Can now connect & tune ecu - but is still bit clunky with process speed.

Hope this helps

The problem Im having is comp ports are not even showing up in device manager. When I install the software it clearly says that it's installed the drivers but there nowhere to be seen, makes no difference if link is plugged in or not. Other usb devices work fine and the link connects to my older laptop no worries.

Definitely strange.  I have to believe there is a software or driver issue on that laptop.  I just tried plugging in a USB to serial adapter I have into my laptop and it immediately showed up in my device manager as COM6 under Ports (COM & LPT) as well as USB to serial converter under the USB controllers section.  I don't have a Link ecu with me at the moment, but I'm certain it would do the same thing on this laptop anyway.
