Simon
You can add additional streams at the ECU end im not sure how configurable the KMS is.
paulr33
hi again, did some more reading and looking around and yeah, in the VTS sofware it looks like i can simply add whatever parameters i like on the CANBUS config and it transmits them accordingly. paulr33
Reading the start of this thread it talks about DBC files etc. why can't I just put the KMS displays CANID in the vipec settings as the transmit to ID and then pick my sensors to send?
Simon
I would assume it was a limitation on the KMS that it couldn't be configured to suit.
paulr33
Thanks again but I think im looking at this the wrong way. The thread originally started because someone wants to use KMS display on Vipec V series. The vendor says its not supported and have to upgrade to i series. Is the reason the upgrade is required is so that the customer can choose "KMS display" in the CAN-BUS setup screen and all the CAN ID's etc are pre-populated and in turn the vipec starts sending out CAN packets destined to the KMS CAN-IDs.If so, then in theory it would work on the V series but the customer would have to load all the CAN IDs manually and fill in the sensors etc.Is my understanding correct? If so, ill go buy one tomorrow and do it myself and program all the IDs into the vipec CAN-BUS configuration screen (via VTS).Of course, i Still need the 10,000 serial fix to be applied and the CANBUS cables etc.
Dave Kriedeman
Hi ,when I had a quick read about the KMS unit it showed it could only display 16 or 20 preset parameters.RegardsDave.
paulr33
Thanks dave, I'm waiting on a reply from KMS but if it can show me the main 15 or so that I'm interested in then that's ok. The display at it's price point the product design make the KMS display attractive for customers. Can you please let me know the process to upgrade my v44 to the 10,000 CAN-BUS fix and I'll also need to order the relevant bus cables. After that I'll order a KMS unit and play aroundThanks
Simon
When we originally looked the KMS the ECU needed to do all the scaling for the outputs as the dash was not able to do it.So in the G4+ and iSeries the scaling calculations are all in the firmware so the output will suit the dash. (custom written can stream)This might have changed and the dash might now allow different scaling calculations if this is the case then the V series could work. paulr33
what would be an example of scaling? Do you mean Kpa, psi, bar etc? The KMS unit lets the user choose what display unit is used
Simon
An example would be the Temp signal is offset by 50 degrees so the dash needs to be able to subtract 50 from the transmitted number.Speed needs to be multiplied by 0.1ECU Voltage needs to be multiplied by 0.
paulr33
thanks for the info. That's some pretty weird scaling going on there... Does this apply to all sensors or only some? Do you have a full list?Ie is it every temp output is offset by 50? Are the pressure ones ok?
Simon
In the VTS help file under device specific CAN info it gives the info around the generic streams.

Simon
I don't know what the DBC file is but all the required info is in the PC link help file.See belowGeneric Dash CAN Data Format All parameters are sent as 16 bit unsigned numbers, with low byte first. Some parameters must be multiplied or offset (constant value added) to get the correct calibrated value. The limits flags are sent through as a bit field (described below). paulr33
Very tempted to order one (KMS DISPLAY) and get it ready for anticipation. My v44 needs to be chipped for CANBUS anyway so I could send both into a vipec dealer at the same time if it helps Edited October 3, 2015 by paulr33

paulr33
Hi all,Any update on this? I can get a G4 plugin and KMS display but not until next year. if I purchase the evo G4 plugin i88 and KMS display what other accessories do I need? CANBUS cables? What about the expansion connector? On the vipec I'm using the standard AN inputs but is this the same on the G4?
jannerboy
http://www.jti.uk.com/2014/08/toucan-available-for-link-g4g4-and-vi-pec/
paulr33
Yeah I was aware of toucan, and a few other can bus display units but they all fail in the asthetics department. I think a lot of them are software driven which usually means an OS is underneath the display unit so the update rate / display rate usually suffers. The KMS unit, like the apexi PowerFC hand controller are light weight and I think are actual microprocessor designed units which usually mean fixed instruction and no software to make them do stuff. Usually results in a nicer product. Ie in the gaugeART videos on YouTube the update rate looks funny sometimes. I've even thought of piggybacking a PowerFC onto my vipec and using the PFC hand controller as a display unit
Scott
Hi Paul,If you purchased the G4+ EVO 8 plug-in you would need (at the minimum) the following to form a CAN bus to the KMS CAN display:1 x CAN-PCB connector (from us)1 x CAN-F connector (from us)1 x ??? connector (from KMS)You would then plug the CAN-PCB connector into the ECU. Next solder two wires onto the CAN H and CAN L pins of the CAN-F connector. Plug the CAN-F connector into the PAN-PCB connector. Next braid your CAN H and CAN L wires into a loom that is long enough to reach the KMS CAN dash wiring. Connect the ??? connector from KMS and then plug the ??? KMS connector into the KMS CAN dash wiring.I don't know what the KMS connector part is, but assume they have one.The expansion connectors used on the v44 and G4+ plug-in ECUs are the same.
