  1. "Be sure to let us know what the was. For future reference..."

Dont know what cause this problem.

We send ECU to person who has know-how in ECU repairing, coding etc.

He just run firmware update...... done!!

"The problem is that you don't have read/write access to that folder"

    As said before.

Maybe 4 laptops that we use have hidden protection or whatever.

Thanks for letting us know Andi, I'm sorry it has been so difficult for this to get done.

Like I said, occasionally we see PCLink installed to the wrong place and that is a very simple fix.

I think that for some reason the 4 machines you tried happened to have the same security setting on those folders and for whatever reason wont let them go. I was able to replicate the fault here at Link by locking the folders, then unlocking them fixed the issue.

    Try to disable inheritance.

    Not workable.

  3. Good morning everybody,

Last night we released a new PCLink and Firmware, I updated this thread but it didn't stick (weird eh?)

Thanks for your patience with the 5.6.2 to 5.6.5 update-requiring-ECU unlock bug. Thanks Davidv for his work around.

    Fixes

    • Fixed bug where users updating from 5.6.2 to 5.6.5 were required to enter a factory unlock code.

    G4+ Firmware Version 5.6.5.3335 – 14-02-17

As always, here's how to update your firmware the best way:

  4. If that doesn't work can you do what you did earlier:

    1. Go to C:\Link G4\PCLink G4 and right mouse click on "Firmware" folder, go properties.
    2. Open the Security tab, click on 'Advanced'.
    3. Take a screenshot of the window that opens and post it here or email it to tech support.

Andi you still haven't done this bit yet

  5. Damn. I was sure that would take care of it.

When you close PCLink, do you get a window that pops up and says "Abnormal Program Termination"?

Can you go to the firmware folder, if the tempqw file is there, can you delete it and try again?

If that doesn't work can you do what you did earlier:

    1. Go to C:\Link G4\PCLink G4 and right mouse click on "Firmware", go properties.
    2. Open the Security tab, click on 'Advanced'.
    3. Take a screenshot of the window that opens and post it here or email it to tech support.
  6. Ok, try this.

    1. Click "Change" next to Owner, type "administrators" then click "Check Names", it should change to something like "SATELLITE\Administrators", press Ok.
    2. Under Owners you should now see "Replace owner on subcontainers..etc.." check this.
    3. Press Apply.
    4. Click on "Disable Inheritance", when prompted tell it to remove all inherited permissions from this object.
    5. Press Apply
    6. Click Add.
    7. Click "Select a Principle"
    8. Type your username Verdana? , click check names, it should change to "SATELLITE\Verdana", press ok.
    9. Select "Full Control"
    10. Press Ok
    11. Press Ok again
    12. Press Ok again
    13. Try that.

What we've done is taken total control over the folder Link G4 and all the folders and files inside it, including the Firmware folder.

Let me know how you get on.

  7.

If the OP can install (& uninstall) PC Link then you would assume he must have write access to C:\Link G4.  Could it be something seemingly unrelated like for instance windows regional/language settings that are preventing this file from being named a certain way or not allowing certain characters etc?  Does that firmware file "tempqw" normally have no extension on it as shown in the error message?

Andi, another quick test you could try that might confirm if there really is any write access problem;  Make a blank/empty notepad file on your desktop, name it tempqw.txt. Next, right click on it, select rename then delete the ".txt" so now you just have a blank file called "tempqw" with no extension.  Copy this and try pasting it into C:\Link G4\firmware. If it pastes ok with no error message than that at least confirms your access is ok and might be another clue.  Delete that file after this test.

Windows allows you to install programs to non read/write/execute locations, then when you try to run them they fall over. We see this a lot with people who install PCLink to Program Files thinking they know better than we do. You may copy and paste things in, around and out of Program Files, but programs are not allowed to read write here. For this reason I think this is still a simple permissions setting that these four machines happen to have set, I still have some investigation to do.

    Andi, please:

    1. go to C:\ and right mouse click on "Link G4", go properties.
    2. Open the Security tab, click on 'Advanced'.
    3. Take a screenshot of the window that opens and post it here or email it to tech support.
  8. Hi guys, so I've just put up a new release of PCLink and the firmware. Thanks for your patience with this one

As always, here's how to update your firmware the best way:

If you have any questions or issues please post them in this thread.

  9. Dave - correct. Turned off VVT for both intake and exhaust, and even zero'd out the tables, table allocaton remains the same and does not change to "OFF". This was using the Fury sample file provided with PC Link.

If you go to your Auxiliary Outputs on the Fury sample you'll see Aux 1 and Aux 2 are set to VVT Cam Solenoid, turning these to OFF should allow those tables to be reallocated.

Tables aren't allocated until VVT is turned on and there is a VVT Cam Solenoid pin assigned. Therefore tables aren't 'deallocated' until VVT is turned off, and the pin is unassigned.

    Hope this helps!

  10. You can zoom with the mouse scroll function. If you don't have a full scale mouse attached to your laptop, most laptops have a scroll fucntion built into the mouse pad. This is usually a bar on the right hand side of the mouse pad, on mac you use a two finger gesture. Sorry I was unable to make this a keyboard shortcut.

  11. In the 'Release Notes' in the help file under the 'PCLink G4+ Users Manual' section it says:

    ECU Firmware Version Information:

    G4+ Firmware Version 5.6.1.3082 - 31-05-15

  12. Oh yeah, I forgot all about this post, sorry.

I don't have anything to post right now, but the real tool in visio is the drawing explorer, it took me ages to find it and turn it on.

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Edit-your-drawing-in-the-Drawing-Explorer-window-298c7c17-7d6e-4a82-9a7f-fdc32910b59b

From the drawing explorer you can add wire colours with stripes etc

    Here's the guide I followed/copied:

  13. yesterday I was wondering about some other things.

    - > suddenly my MAP-Axis in Fuel Table1 was automaticaly cut.

I had a 22x20 Fuel table. I selected the Axis Setup

Allthough the Fuel table in the background had 20 MAP values -  only the negative values where visible in the Axis Setup.

After leaving the Axis setup, the Fuel table was cut to these remaining negative MAP values on MAP-Axis.

I was not able to repeat this, so I dont know what happened.

This may very well be related to what I fixed, I'll take another look and see if anything jumps out.

    Cheers

A bit different issue but with the newest firmware. I can´t get graphic view visible at the same time with grid view on fuel table or ignition table etc. And while looking at the graphic view only, the visibility is very blurred and can´t see any values. This all when offline. Haven´t tested online yet.

I'm preparing a video that covers how to work with the new graphic view.

Can you post a screenshot of your graphic view and a screenshot of your Help>About window too please?

    I have same Axis problem on a Fury ecu .  -79, -69, -59 etc

    Regards

    Jim

Hey Jim, yeah this is a PCLink bug, so it'll show up in all basemaps while you're offline.
